A Night Under The Stars: A Weekend Getaway Story

There's this spot in Moalboal, Cebu, Philippines away from the crowd where the roads twist and twine and the sea gifts you with serenity. This weekend, I and my boyfriend, along with some of his friends decided to spend his birthday in his place in Moalboal. We're also anticipating the annual phenomenon called "Lyrid Meteor Shower". According to the news, the spectacular event falls exactly on his birthday with dates transitioning from April 21-22. A gift from the universe indeed!

So we prepared what we needed and got to the place early to ready our provisions as well since there are no electricity -- which would allow us to enjoy each other's company without any interference from the stressful world which involves social networks and multimedia.

Allow me to show you the photos of the sea in his place which is still well hidden from most people:

What I also love about this place is that it always leaves me speechless with its magnificent and breathtaking sunsets. I've managed to capture some photos below but they still won't do justice to what I've seen with my eyes:

And yes, since there's no electricity in his place yet, we have to do the cooking manually---from making fire out of dried woods and doing it in his native kitchen. Everything is back to basic, which also makes us appreciate the hardwork spent in preparing the food and enjoy it more when we eat.

Then night time finally came.

And the moon appeared.

After enjoying the sumptuous dinner, we hurried and prepared his Gazebo wherein we tie our hammocks. Aside from tents, hammocks are also a comfortable place to sleep. We've also lit lanterns to give some light to the place since there's no electricity and it beautifully changed the vibe and gave the place a cozy, warm feeling.

Aside from the moon, stars are slowly shining brightly now.

Can you just imagine how peaceful it is to sleep in a hammock with the background of the milky way and the only sound you can hear are of waves crashing and crickets echoing?

But it's still to early to sleep now. After eating and preparing the gazebo for our place to sleep later, it's now time to look up and just stare above. We've laid out a native blanket for us to lay on while we start to count the falling stars. While we waited, we exchanged stories of different experiences and of moments that made us laugh. And when 12mn came, when time transitioned from April 21 to 22, we got our surprise birthday cake and sang a Happy Birthday song for my boyfriend. ✨ We're all happy and thankful we're here at this moment. It's just bliss. Eudaimonia at its best.

It truly is magical. I'm very much okay with giving up my supply of electricity as long as I have this ceiling of stars. :) Thank you so much for appreciating. ✨
