Le chanteur canadien Shawn Mendes, distingué dans trois catégories, dont celle du meilleur artiste, est le principal lauréat de la 24e édition des MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) qui s’est déroulée dimanche soir à Londres.
Devant un public relativement jeune, l’artiste de 19 ans a interprété le titre There’s Nothing Holdin' Me Back, sorti en 2017, qui a été primé meilleure chanson, une récompense remise par le footballeur français Paul Pogba.
Il a également obtenu le prix du meilleur groupe de fans. Dans la catégorie meilleur artiste, il l’a emporté sur les poids-lourds Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus ou encore Taylor Swift.
Dans une Wembley Arena comble, c’est le rappeur Eminem qui a ouvert la soirée, avec la première interprétation en public de son single WalK on water, sorti vendredi. Le rappeur a été distingué meilleur artiste hip-hop, une récompense qu’il avait déjà reçue huit fois depuis 1999.
Maîtresse de cérémonie, la Britannique Rita Ora a fait son apparition en peignoir sur la scène. Elle a plus tard interprété ses titres Your song et Anywhere, qui devraient figurer sur son prochain album.
