@gavvet, thanks for this updates.I'll work hard to see it grow fast in Africa. I'm an African, and I'll try my best to promote Steemit in some African groups on facebook. I'm currently organizing a youth seminar in my local church to introduce steemit to them. So many people here are living bellow $3 a day, I believe Steemit will be appreciated by most of them. We have an estimation of almost 30 million Nigerians on Facebook, if these people will divert their attention to Steemit, I'm sure it will help a lot.

Probably because usd is strong in most of the regions in asia. For example I am currently in India, here most people earn 300 Rs ( nearly 5 bucks) for full day of labour, and on steemit you can imagine.
I myself referred some people here, and they are liking steemit so far.
It feels good to see smile on their faces when they earn their first buck.

Yes, in a lot of countries earning $5 USD per day is pretty good money. Those are the places Steemit.com will really have an appeal. There are a bunch of new cryptocurrency exchanges being created over there in Asia and that is where a lot of the demand for virtual currencies is coming from. That and some recent law/rule changes only further the demand from that region.

The idea that a "whale" can come along and downvote away all of your rewards is incredibly unappealing. It will be, and I'm sure it has been, used for personal attacks, etc. I'll never be a part of something like this and I'm sure I'm not alone. Change the feature so one person doesn't have so much power, at least on the downvote angle, and I'm sure more people will want to join.
Putting a lot of money into Steem does not make you a good content curator, or a fair person. It's a ridiculous feature that does not line up with promoting good content. It seems to be more about motivating people to put money into the network.
When the motivations of a network don't line up properly, it will eventually fail and I think Steemit has had more than its fair share of troubles already to offer some proof of that.

If I sound frustrated in my response it's only because I see so much potential here. But I also see that downvote feature as Steemit shooting itself in the foot. Imagine if YouTube took away creator revenue because videos received dislikes. No one would post there any more.
I hope you change up the system so downvotes have zero financial impact across the board- for all users - for posts and comments. That's the only thing that will work, imo.
Other than that, It seems like this could be an incredible site/idea/network!

It looks that we are entering bubble territory for a vast majority of alt coins (except Bitcoin probably). Just think about and analyze the following facts:
At least several dozens alt coins market caps skyrocketed 300%-4000%(yes, four thousand!) recently just over last 2 months!
The beginning of sharp increase happened around middle of March of 2017 for ALL alt coins!
Yes, some alt coins sharp increase is logically justifiable. For example, Ripple XRP: http://www.cnbc.com/2017/03/01/japanese-banks-plan-to-adopt-blockchain-for-payments.html . Maybe there are couple other alt coins where this huge growth is also justifiable.
But for vast majority of other alt coins nothing has changed drastically during the last 2 months! At all! Neither in their technologies development, nor in their business development! But nevertheless, their market cap skyrocketed 300%-4000% in just 2 months!
The only explanation which comes to mind is that huge amount of new capital is coming to cryptocurrencies market. Probably these are the people/investors who have heard about the first wave of Bitcoin and Ethereum successes, and they have a FOMO (fear of missing out) now. They don't have deep understanding of cryptocurrencies space and their differences, but because of FOMO they still invest in all other alt coins hoping to hit jackpot!
Does it remind you anything? Yes, exactly, dot com bubble of 2000 looks very similar!
Therefore, I would expect some kind of significant downside price correction within next several months for the majority of alt coins. Would you agree?

Soaring prices in the Steem market need not be surprised anymore, we can make it even crazier if it always gives every reader a chance to interact with anyone and make it memorable. Not every reader will use that opportunity, but if it happens and Steemit exceeds their expectations, Steemit will get readers who will bring far more readers than any attempt to get new readers on their own.
