Seoul is currently the steemit capital, with Australia late to the party but showing up in style.

in stats •  8 years ago

Move over London and New York, there's a new sheriff in town ;)

At least this last week that is.

It's hard to say if more traffic is routed by ISP's through certain cities and where exactly the "not set" traffic is coming from, but right now Seoul, South Korea is striding out ahead of the rest, with close to 3% of all traffic to steemit.com, originating there.

That is 150% to almost 200% larger than its nearest rivals, London and New York.

It is not possible that all web traffic for the country is routed via Seoul as smaller dots are found all over South Korea.

The US and Canadian cities are to be expected in the top ten (North America is the largest traffic by region) but what is Warsaw doing there?

Australia has been a bit of a dark horse, but now suddenly traffic is surging, with two cities in the top ten.

Regional traffic has topped out at roughly double or previous records but not so for Eastern Asia (which is dominated by South Korean traffic)

It is now at levels 4 to 5 times last years record highs and just keeps climbing.

This is all great news.

Any developers that localize a Korean version of one of the STEEM blockchain web interfaces could find themselves with a very intriguing opportunity, by being first to market to this viral community.

Also the interest from various exchanges, in the region, to list STEEM is an exiting prospect. This will give users in those regions a direct on-ramp to STEEM from local currencies without having to go through the dinosaur bitcoin.

Once experiencing the speed and fee-less utility of STEEM, why would anyone in those regions utilize bitcoin as their gateway unless they really had to.

The kinds of volumes that Asian exchanges generate are astounding. This could be a real game changer for STEEM as a currency.

Unfortunately, despite this growth, there is a lot of negativity on kr community now. Please read and resteem this post: Are Korean Posts Really Overvalued?

I am also just informed by a Korean member who joined 12 days ago that his first $100+ post was downvoted (so from $140 to $20). The post has 300+ views and 23 comments at the moment. He is so discouraged now.

i was sad..

relay my article is shit..? i can't understand huge power downvote without any comment.

this is my aritlce.

i think $20 is not small. but, many people see my aritcle and vote this and them accumulate $100.
and.. some people's downvote me. without any comment.

they are hate me? or korean? why?

All those accounts belong to the same person. He is downvoting every high paying post that isn't done by his inner circle of friends.

You're full of shit, but, I'll add you to my list!

How does he have so many phone numbers? Or can you use the same number for more than one account? Or perhaps one of those apps that give you a number to get SMS...blame N. Korea!

Anonsteem allows you to start accounts without a phone number so that might have something to do with it.

Reeeeally? That doesn't seem very fair to those who are legit with one account attached to their phone numbers. That should be fixed otherwise things can get out of hand in my opinion. I could just have 1,000 accounts with ten buddies and just upvote crap day and night and destroy people actually putting themselves into posts and not trying to game the system. Could be a big problem for STEEMIT if it gets out of control dont you think?

You still have to pay for the Steem to power up new accounts.

Hello! As you'll see, most of them are westeners. Also, to make you feel better, it looks like someone is a bad programmer and @yougotflagged doesn't work as it should. Same thing for @steemservices and @thebotkiller.

As for the other users, people can be jealous when they see someone else doing good. Most of the ones who downvoted you don't have a single post themselves. It's not against you. They maybe just go around downvoting because they have a sad life.

thank you.

they has many powers. but i am not more powerful then they are.
they are getting more powers than me in the same time.

i can't be happy in this situation.
but i will not give up.
i was not wrong, and not alone.
steem community peoples are work for more good.

they will be fixed.

I see you are a programmer. The github for Steemit is public, so you can open an issue. https://github.com/steemit/steem It's in English, so I don't know if that's a problem, but it's better to be heard!

thank you. yes i am programmer and i follow your idea.
it was not simply issue. yes. it is better.

or they might have a shit tone of steem.

I really hate downvoters. Either upvote or don't vote at all. Stop messing with people's money and reputation. Just because you don't agree doesn't mean the post does not have value!

They need to correlate the power of one's down vote directly to the quality and quantity of that users content in order to prevent weaponized down voti g.

Look at bernie's response to a newbie member, flagging and hiding.

Tell them to not lose hope and wait till Monday.

Monday ??

What's going to happen?

EOS will be revealed, which will give a huge boost to Steem. ;) Hold on.

Already excited :)

BUY CRYPTOES SEEL THE US DOLLAR

The dollar will begin its 18 year cycle with a 9 year downturn period to the eurocurrencies as it always has done. This will probably be very bullish for precious metal too.

Check out this post for more on the cycles of weakening US dollar and the current state of the dollar.

https://steemit.com/dollar/@sjovmaiin/the-coming-fall-of-the-us-dollar

I have talked about this with friends, and 'toxic' behavior is difficult to avoid. Getting to reddit levels of downvoting without seeing the post might not become the case, but as the community grows, 'toxic' or jealous people are bound to join as well.

This is interesting.
Followed.

I think that an example of crab mentality thing. So sad. 🙁😔

Indonesia will be the next, i will invite everybody to post here to make an acesystem bigger.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

I am looking forward to Indonesia's growth!

Do your best...

i think you're right.

나는 한국의 동화를 고대하고있다. K-pop은 나의 주인입니다.

I'm with you there!!!

Haha :D

😂😂lol

Awesome work, really amazing how Steemit is doing these days, it is getting viral!

Viral is definitely the best word to describe the growth in Asia.

  ·  8 years ago (edited)

I love it when the prices on the markets are rising, its the best kind of marketing there is. The rewards are larger and word of mouth takes over.

Well Im used to Korean dominance since I play League of Legends. They won the World Championship over the last 4 years. I'm learning korean on steemit, getting ready to be assimilated :3

Assimilation... is inevitable.

안녕?나는토비라고해

안녕하세요, 저는 별 모양입니다.

I can only speak very little Korean. Please Master, give me more time to learn your beautiful and logic language, so I can communicate with your Highness.

너는 내가하는 것처럼해야한다.

LOL you said "Hello I am star shape" (stella = star, bell = ?)

Imagine if China get son it... OMG! Steem nuke :D

It surely will happen :)

Not sure they are able to use it..
Google dont even work over there. They have their own version of that

I can't wait for that!!!

That might be hard work as China does not use the World Wide Web. I believe they have the China net or something...

there are ways around and through the great firewall of China

Well said!

They use WWW for sure... lol.... only some websites are forbidden (google.com for one). A bigger difference is that they develop their own set of internet services: no facebook, no twitter... but wechat.

A new YOYOW project is coming.. on Graphene as well (similar to steem). This is developed by a pure Chinese team so I think they will work better with the Chinese regulations/culture. Steem, on the other hand, can play the role of bridging China to the world and vice versa (so, no censorship). It is a smaller market (as compared with the whole China market) but still big enough to be significant.
My 2 cents.

I can't wait to see what the Steemit world is like a year from now. Do you foresee any governments or organizations trying to block steemit?

Even small country (Kathmandu, NEPAL) like mine is showing active. The flame is rising, let this wild fire go where it wants to go

I feel pretty much alone here where I am, next to the north pole ;-)

Probably cold too?

Surprisingly not so cold, no.

wow! do a video!

I'll first learn some editing. I'm quite picky what I release.

here is my though, why Indonesia will be the next big author in steem.

  1. Indonesia has 250 mill population ( almost 50 mill playing Facebook or twitter )
  2. people from Indonesia enjoy a social media, they spent a lot of their time for reading socmed or event post what they eat or where they goes.
  3. they really enjoy it event they did not even get paid, if they know that there is socmed like steem which can make money from posting or vote, it will become viral pretty fast. ( yes we are from 3rd world country ) payment from steemit will be over our salary.
  4. there are many baetifull place to take a pict with
  5. in 2018 will be a congress election and 2019 president election.

thats all..

if you have any reason, complete it..

Hello from Australia :)

Welcome OZ

Very interesting subject, well researched, great post!!
Thank you @gavvet!!

Great stats. I am so happy to see all the new authors posting.

Good that Canada has a good share.

it really does not matter what location people are on steem only that they the people as a whole are on it

People working together for a common goal = WINNING!

I do agree!

Very freaking nice!!!

Only time will tell for sure

i am surprised that Koreans are also into this website .

Really this is unexpected good news. actually i just posted a blog about how we can reach out Arab world and make them join steemit ship.
Knowing that Asia already have a huge participation in steemit nispte that they mostly don't speak English make me thinking that Arab can just do fine. I hope also Africa will ride the wave soon :)
Good informative blog @gavvet

i can make article with arabic language, i also can speak arabic, i will make a blog and spread it to my fellow arabian

Then we need you @crackdown
please take a look at this blog about how we can reach out Arab world
we need your opinion and support
following you now :)

i just made to Indonesia people so they will register and make the diatribution bigger

https://steemit.com/steemit/@crackdown/steemit-for-indonesia-please-up-vote-to-make-it-viral

i hope i can help this community, im sorry if i post the link here, if it is restricted i will delete the link..

How many accounts do we have in total?

Awesome work, i love how Steemit is doing these days, it is getting viral!

I dont believe their userbase is growing organically.. Someone must be behind the scene recruiting, marketing.. and if i know who he/she is.. I'd hug him/her/them.

what a great post :)

No surprise the tech savvy Koreans are leading the way!

Once Steem gets on the radar of more countries Steem will definitely need to include a filter to filter out the different languages in the various new, hot and trending subjects for each user. Otherwise some-one better get to work writing an auto-translator for Steem.

Wow thats crazy & good to know, I wonder how many steemers are in San Francisco have not stumbled upon any yet on here, do you have the stats for SF?

Oh! My lovely Tehran has a circle on the map!

So?

WOW... and Estonia :)))

ok :)))

Steemit spreading bit by bit all over the world :)

Hello Asia! What are some of the favorite beer brands over there, anyone?

Beer Bintang, you can buy it in Indonesia

Awesome Stats! Indians could also top the charts in coming months, but it's just that they are very less aware of Steem. Basically cryptos in general.

All they need is time

Realy great to see Steemit growing each day.
sky's the limit, steem on !

Really cool!!! Thanks for sharing. So fascinating! :)

Resteemed. Following.

Just get Reddit people to switch platforms.

The next avenue for Steemfest. What do you think?

Perhaps some will be looking at an eastern branch of steemfest? We did out own in the South.

I 'd love to think that its a possibility since its near from my country :)

It's all going in the right direction <3

steemevolution.jpg

I guess is time for me to make a kimchi post

Thank you for the report. :) @gavvet

The more people we get the better, retaining those that produce good content will be the hard part.

It will mature... still baby steps

I think someone could make article about how exactly Steem went viral in Korea. Steem community might utilize this knowledge in future for marketing and to help make this platform viral in other countries :).

Good suggestion

Cheering on not only the #kr community but also awesome to see Steemit so well used in all corners of the world.

For sure

So they really love Steemit in Korea, this is huge. Imagine how many people can meet up there :))

I mean soon they will be using it instead of any other social network.

Thank you @gavvet for sharing this extremely interesting post. I have even made a translated post in Russian.

but what is Warsaw doing there?

we have great Steem community here in Poland! We are growing fast, and I think it will be even better!

Stats about Polish community: https://steemit.com/steemit/@lukmarcus/steemit-statistics-polish-writing-by-polish-authors-how-it-s-going-till-now-tables-and-charts-inside

Go Poland!!!

Unfortunately, I feel like the states will be last to let steem prosper. They love their gold standard and hate anything that threatens it.

Wow steemit is really building steem and its steemtastick hahahaha

I post the latest in the meme war and economic news follow me if you dare hahahaha

Next @steemfest venue?

we all wonder

This is very interesting I believe that STEEMIT found a way in which sharing information with the world makes it not only a personal experience but at the same time allows us to enjoy it while being able to be calm and not thinking about the income on a daily basis. personally, I find out that writing and not thinking on what I'm going to eat next day I do enjoy writing. thank you for the data

This is very great news indeed.

800 fucking dollars for repeating the same fucking shit every week? Jesus Fucking Christ.

Melbourne Baby!

Welcome OZ

My experiment is the cause of Warsaw and Polands' traffic going through da roof!

Wow awesome and i hope in the future Phnom penh will join it to!

how do I reference this steem article as I have an idea?

thanks gavvet : I translate it for kr community

https://steemit.com/kr/@maa/dt79k

Wow , who would have thought ? The Bad part about this is that My Wife is being proven correct, I do not know everything!

What did you get wrong (in her eyes) this time, because you could never really be wrong?

So you are not married? Definition of a Bachelor ( Mine) A Guy who does not know he has any faults! Thank you for the support.

Now that is impossible...

One would think so.

Any links to the graphs you provided in a "live" format? Thanks

I think you are right. This can be a game changer!

definitely

Great insight.

This is great. Steemit is growing really fast everywhere. Feeling really happy.

Wow, I didnt notice how many steemit users in each city!! Cool~!

very informative article and diagram

Steemit is catching on. I caught me and I'm getting to be an old curmudgeon that doesn't like wasting time or suffering fools. It is generally a mutually supportive community in which to exchange and explore all kinds of interesting information. It will continue to explode across the world.

Amazing posts...
I like it @gavvet

Congratulation Seoul !

wow....I had no idea about Steemit abroad....excellent news. I am really stoked about Steemit and the future of Bitcoin.

Wonder how Western Europe fits in this story and more particular the Netherlands. Have the feeling that maybe only few thousand Dutchies are using Steemit for the moment, but maybe I am terribly wrong :-)

Nederlands is third!!! in europe

Thanks for the info and wow. Did not expect the Netherlands to be an early adopter 😁

Still so much growth to go, I love it

That is crazy growth! I am hoping that this is a positive sign for the penetration of other Asian markets.

I am running a small giveaway with my latest post and would truly appreciate any support.

I'm not usually one to get excited over statistic style posts, but this one drew me in, well done!

thanks

It has been so exciting to see so many new introduction posts from that side of the world. Asia will catapult Steem to the moon!

Precisely, other regions have had their turn and didn't utilize it, now its time for the Asian tigers and dragons

Loving their participation.

Good to think about that it :)

good news....

Warsaw is 6th I'm surprised WOW!

Poland 4th in Europe

Excellent Distribution

Does anyone know why this traffic is coming from Korea? I am living here at the moment but I find it very interesting that much of the traffic is coming from here!

Search engines rank steemit content highly

What a great post, very informative! Keep the great content coming!
I just wrote my 2nd article on Steemit: https://steemit.com/money/@jdawg/diversify-out-of-the-dollar
please vote and resteem!

Good read gavvet! Where does Ireland fall in the list? It would be interesting to see a similar table with per capita data to understand how concentrated usership is.
