The OIC summit will take place on 13 December 2017, Turkey as the OIC Chairman calls for a discussion on the status of Jerusalem.

Responding to US steps to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for the holding of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Istanbul on December 13 to discuss the issue.

"In the face of developments that evoke sensitivity about the status of Jerusalem, the President called for a summit of leaders of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to demonstrate the joint actions of Islamic countries," presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told reporters in Ankara on Wednesday (7/12/2017 ).

He said that the summit will take place on December 13, 2017. There has been no immediate confirmation from the leaders of Muslim countries whether they will come. To note, Turkey currently serves as Chairman of the OIC.
According to Kalin, the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem - announced by President Donald Trump on Wednesday - will be a "big mistake" to international agreements.

"Jerusalem is our honor, Jerusalem is our common goal, Jerusalem is our red line," he said, urging the Trump government to "get back from this grave error".

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said the United States's move poses a risk of "fire" in the Middle East and will lead to a "catastrophe."

The recognition will "throw the Middle East and the world into the fire and it is not known when it will end," said Bozdag, who is also a spokesman for the Turkish government via Twitter. He said the move would destroy the peace process.

In addition to the OIC, a number of leaders and political figures of the world strongly criticized the government's decision Donald Trump on Wednesday (6/12/2017) local time officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This move is contrary to UN resolutions and can fuel one of the bloodiest conflicts in the world.

The UN and Pope Francis expressed his concern over Trump's decision on Jerusalem. The announcement is seen to provoke new tensions in the historic holy city worshiped by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.

UN Secretary General António Guterres spoke of his "great anxiety" regarding this Trump decision.

In a speech the announcement of several minutes that Trump also said the US embassy will also be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Related to that, Guterres said it would give diplomatic warning.
