Which type of Steemit user are you? A Fire Hydrant or a Sink Faucet

in steek-help •  7 years ago  (edited)

Upvotes are an important part of the Steemit system.

  • Through upvotes we are able to support content creators that add value to our community.
  • Through upvotes we know when our content is connecting with our followers and making a difference.

Which type of Steemit user are you?

A Fire Hydrant

  • Fire Hydrants tend to upvote at 100%
  • Because 100% upvotes decrease overall voting strength more quickly, a fire hydrant may choose to only upvote a few posts and comments each day.
  • If a fire hydrant upvotes more than 10 times a day, his or her voting strength will not be replenished at the end of each day.

Sink faucet

  • Sink Faucets tend to upvote at less than 100% (sometimes significantly less).
  • Because of this upvote strategy, sink faucets are able to cast significantly more upvotes per day than a fire hydrant and still replenish overall voting strength at the end of each day.

The following chart explains how many upvotes can be cast per day at various strength levels and still replenish total voting power to 100% at the end of each day.

Voting Strength PercentageNumber of Votes That Can Be Cast Per Day
100%10
50%20
20%50
10%100
1%1000

Just In Case You Didn't Know

Some of you may be saying, "Wait a minute. You mean I can adjust my upvote percentage?"

If you are asking this question, then you do not yet have the option (even though the feature is built into Steemit.com).

New Steemit users are forced to give 100% upvotes. New Steemit users are forced to be fire hydrants.

Until recently, I had always had to give 100% upvotes. After renting delegated Steempower, I have had access to the upvote strength slider.

I did not have access to the slider when I had 245SP, but then had access once I reached 495SP. I have not been able to find the exact Steem Power value required to gain access to the slide.

For future reference, the upvote strength slider looks like this.

I try to stay around 70% voting power. So some days I upvote more then others. I try to always leave a comment. To answer your question above, I think once you reach 500 SP you get to use the slider.

@kubbyelizabeth, thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. I know that sometimes comments are all we can leave behind. I think that engaging is better than not, even when you can't upvote.

I only had 495SP when I received access to the slider. Looking forward to earning that position permanently, so that I have more control over my upvote.

have a blessed day!

Me too, I am about 9.00SP away from hitting 100 and I am oddly very excited about this small milestone.

Keep pressing on!

one tenth of an SP at a time

I usually like to keep a minimum of $10 SBD, but just couldn't wait. Finally at 100 :-)

Congrats on your great accomplishment! Woohoo!

Thank you very much!

Yep, as a newbie it's so annoying watching the bar on SteemD slowly inch it's way back up!

It is hard! We can either exercise restraint now or later.

I'm a fucking bulldozer and just click everything!

@unbeaten, I had never thought about a bulldozer analogy. Thanks for the comment!

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by sumatranate from the Minnow Support Project. I'm new and I was always corious about how all these people vote with a specific amount of voting power, so thanks so much for this post.

By the way, do you know how I can find how many 'voting power' is left for me for a specific day? because it's hard to keep count of the 10 posts I upvoted in the last 24 hours.. and there must be a tool for that, right?

EDIT: it seems I can see that via steemd.com but I don't know how?!

I use http://www.Steemstats.com. You will need to enter your user id. Then the information will be located on the left side of the page. It should look something like this:

Thanks, the closer it is to %100 is worse or better?... sorry for taking your time.

No worries. The higher the number the better. I you have 100% then you can give a better payout to other people.

Thanks... I suggest you add this to your post (it isn't related that much but...) so people get more useful information out of it.... #JustaSuggestion

Very good one @sumatranate. I thought someone needed to be at 500 sp. But, if you're just shy, that's cool. Who did you rent delegation from?

@karencarrens, for some reason I thought the total was 500SP as well, but I am excited to see the feature a little bit early. I rented from @demotruk.

You can learn more from his article Offering Steem Power Delegation.

Thumbs up!

gotta do more research now...

I have not yet earned a percent slider, but thank you for giving me a number of votes that I can limit myself at! I am still working on building up my voting power, and learning the community. All your posts are very informative!
