Ooty is called the Queen of the Hills. It is located in the Nilgiris district of Taminlandi state in India. Coonoor is 19 kilometers away from Ooty and Kotagiri is 31 kilometers away. All these three places are hill stations. It is 100 kilometers away from Coimbatore. There are many attractions that attract people such as lakes, dense forests, green meadows, unique plants, and clean air. Taking the mountain train from Mettupalayam to Ooty will be an even more interesting experience. Botanical garden, boat ride on the lake, a park with many colorful roses, and a museum are some of the places to visit in Ooty.

It is called the Nilgiris because it is always surrounded by a blue haze. The area is 2549 sq. km., and the headquarters is Udhagamandalam (Ooty) at an altitude of 2240 meters above sea level. It receives 121 centimeters of rainfall per year. The Nilgiris district is located at the junction of the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats.

Ooty Lake in Tamil

Ooty Lake is an artificial lake created in 1842. This lake is managed by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation.
Botanical Garden

Government Botanical Garden or Botanical Garden

This is a government botanical garden, established in 1847. The garden is adorned with trees and plants brought from many countries. There is a stone tree that is 20 million years old. Its area is 22 hectares. It is located on a hillside at an altitude of 2400-2500 feet above sea level. There are many types of flowers, rare plants and herbal plants here and a big lawn in it. Numerous Bollywood and Indian films were filmed in this garden. The flower show held here every year in May is very special.

Dodapetta

This famous mountain peak runs north to south in the middle of the western region and reaches its maximum height at Dodapetta. Thodtapetta is located eight kilometers east-southeast of Ooty. Thodtapetta is the highest peak in the Nilgiris district. Its height is 2636 meters. The next highest peaks are Snow Downhill 2530 meters. Height. Once touched, all of them together form a magnificent valley called Udhagamandalam.

Bykara

The major river in the district is Bykara, which is considered a sacred river by the Todar tribe. This river originates from Mukurthi Peak. Then it travels through several hills and flows generally towards the north, and then turns west at the end of the region. In this flow, it cascades down at many places. Its last two cascades fall from a height of 55 meters and 61 meters respectively and are called Bykara Falls. These waterfalls are 20 kilometers away from Ooty. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation maintains a wonderful boat house at Bykara Dam.

Avilanji

This place is located on the way to Upper Bhavani through the Emerald Forest, 25 kilometers from Ooty. From every turn towards this place, you can see wonderful, beautiful forest views. When you look from the top of Avilanji hill, the rivers and valleys flowing there. The reservoir is also breathtaking.

Children's Park

The Children's Park is located at the eastern end of the lake. The flowers blooming here in the lawn here will bring joy and happiness to any child's mind, they will run to play without knowing it. From here, you can see St. Thomas Church, the mountain train that crawls from the station, boat rides, horse rides, etc. This place is a very happy place for children and adults.

Horse Racing Ground

The horse racing ground is located in the heart of Ooty city. It is one of the famous horse racing grounds in India with a track length of 24 km. It is most popular in the months of April, May and June.

Kalkatti Falls

On the Ooty-Mysore road, 13 km from Ooty, in the Kalkatti Hills, this waterfall is best visited in the months of September and November. It falls from a height of forty meters.

Wellington Staff College

On the way from Ooty to Coonoor, Wellington is located. It is a military town with rows of military barracks. The headquarters of the Chennai Division of the Indian Army and the Army Staff College are also located here.

How to reach ooty

There are bus services from major cities in Tamil Nadu like mettupalayam, Coimbatore, Erode , trichy , madurai and chennai Also nearest stated Kerala and Karnataka to reach Ooty. The nearest airport is in Coimbatore . There is a short railway line from Coimbatore to Ooty via Mettupalayam and Coonoor. Tourists are advised to go by train if possible to experience the beauty of mountains and forests.

Best time to visit Ooty

The ideal times of year to visit Ooty, which is regarded as the best season of summer, are April, May, and June. Additionally, December through February are regarded as off-season months, with excellent daytime temperatures and extremely chilly nights.
