I am for this statement

Reason 1: Very few people watch educational shows
Reason 2: Nothing gets done while you are watching tv.
Reason 3: The more tv you watch the fatter you become.
Reason 4: TV shows communicates a message. It is not a good message.
Reason 5: People stopped reading as a result of TV. As a result, they can't think anymore.

Watching TV is a stupid waste of time.

Most shows are junk, yes some are very entertaining and even educational, but these are the exception and not the rule
TV is not interactive. You cannot ask the TV questions and the TV doesn't care for your response. Talking to the TV is really stupid.
You can read faster than you can watch tv if obtaining knowledge is your aim. Online videos can be paused.
TV is very limited for most people subjecting you to propeganda, single opinions and useless information.
Watching TV is a passive activity, societies in general are becoming lazy and over weight, this isn't good
TV isn't good for your eyes
TV watching is anti-social, which can lead to depression
Many of the better programs cost money, so free TV is usually bad and filled with time wasting ads

So many people have spoken against, so let me speak in support (For) of the statement.

Someone said watching TV teaches us socialization skills. Please can you tell us what socialization skills have you learnt by watching TV? Infact, tv prevents us from socializing because it makes us remain in one place and oblivious of what's going on around us.

2 . Tv can create a disconnection between couples. Just imagine that you want to have an alone time with your partner and he/she is glued to the TV in the sitting room. How would you feel?

3 . Somebody also said watching of TV can help develop our critical thinking. Please what critical thinking? Tell me one tv program you've watched that stirred your mind to think critically? Too much TV watching keeps our mind dormant and prevents us from having creative and challenging thoughts

4 . Too much TV watch make most of us copy wrong values, wrong way of dressing and wrong approach to life.

5 . Some tv programs will make you start suspecting everyone in your life because you will think that they either want to harm you or play you.

6 . Somebody also said watching of TV can be a great way to encourage children to study. Really! Please how many tv programs encourage children to study or even teaches them right values? Tv is a big distraction to children because it prevents them from concentrating on their studies. Most students have failed to do their school home work several times because of tv.

7 . Too much TV watching can make you forget important engagement you have. Some people have turned their food to burnt offering several times because they were glued to their tv and forgot that they put something in the fire

8 . Most tv programs don't teach what is applicable in the real world so why waste your time watching such.

Tv can be a very big distraction to anyone. We just have to know when to put it on and when to keep it off

I'm standing for watching of tv is a stupid with the following reasons given below:

Watching of tv consumes a lot of the time we would have invested into doing productive work.

2 . Watching of tv makes so many of us lazy and irresponsible.

3 .Most of the programs shown on tv are fictional and they give constant tv watchers a warped view about life.

4 . tv cuts us from the real world and deprive us from going out to mix up with other people

5 . Constant tv watchers are more likely to get obese because it prevents them from being active. Just imagine someone sitting on one spot for over 3hrs all in the name of entertaining himself /herself.

6 . It makes us adopt foreign cultures and behaviours that may be destructive to us.

7 . It can make our kids irresponsible and unserious with their education and lives

8 .it's one of the media through which our kids get influenced negatively.

9 . It disconnects us from happenings around our immediate environment.
watching of tv has advantages and also disadvantages, we just have to learn to create the balance. Thank you

I m against for call it stupid.

Watching tv for kids or adults can be informative and educational when we choose the right channel and programs.
Watching TV with family can make our times together and sharing each other, we watched the same.view and sometimes can use the view to be discussed. Especially when watching in night time after dinner and in day times everybody busy for each schedule.
Because the technology now are much better and internet really easy to access, many people like to focus on phone and chatted with other people who far away than our close relation or family.
When we watching tv we need to set the times so can't disturb other activities. Especially for kids. When parents are do their work (activities at home) put kids in front of TV to watch kids program and give times. Let them enjoy their rimes for while so their brain are not monotonous.

So stupid when we wrong to choose the channel, because some channel really is. Waste time when we can't set our own time. Anything in our daily need a good setting and put in the right portion so we can find the balance for our life. When we can do that kind of management for our times, nothing useless and waste in this world.

Entertainment industry is arising ONLY when the world is peaceful no chaos, I don't see much of the value of it
kind of a brainwashing
Read books more than TVs, well spending of time with knowledge gain
Rather prefer movie as contents are more meaningful presented than TVs

I'll stand against this statement.

Build creativity - Watching television build creativity in both kids and youth.This is how I'll explain.
When I was a kid I admire those animation show considering them as if they are the real person. It let me think too many fiction stories now.
*** Gain knowledge*** - No matter what you are seeing but each time you will find something new. As a kid later I found cartoon to be creation of graphics.
Even some science related topics that cleared more like solar system, planets, galaxy just by watching it only.
Know different traditions, religion and culture- How I came to know that their exist people outside the place where I live??
Answers must be same it's the contribution of TV and nothing else.
I came to know about so many variation just by watching otherwise I may be aware by books about but can't understand that properly.
Fashion and equipment- Whenever we watch the television or any movie, we came to know some other place, some new tool, the level of enhancement in computer graphics, our world and so on.
Everything we can't read in newspaper.
*** Know reality of people ***- In movies and animation We often came to know the dual nature of people. How they cheat! So it contribute to such mental development of viewer.

Overall I consider it to be the best and interesting way to learn and keep in touch with ourselves.

I am against this statement
Reason 1. It's too general. Logically, it can be disproven with just one counterexample, i.e. Because I watched True Blood and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I was inspired to write Gentle Werewolf, which has led to wonderful things for me.
Reason 2. It uses an ad hominem attack. Regardless of whether it is a waste of time, I would never label someone stupid. I don't know their reasons!
Reason 3. Some people suffer from mental and/or physical ailments that prevent them from certain activities. If they get pleasure from TV, it's certainly not a stupid waste of time.
Reason 4. We're always learning, whether we intend to be or not. TV might have an ill effect on the psyche, but that doesn't make it a waste of time. If someone goes into a room good and comes out of the room evil, we would give the thing that happened in that room a negative label, but not "waste of time"
Reason 5. Time cannot be wasted. It is used. It also cannot be saved. It is always used. It's not like I can rummage through the time wastebin and collect the time other people have thrown away. Nope, they used it. Used it all up! I need MORE.
Reason 6. We're all addicted to time. If watching TV helps people kick their habit, more power to them.

1. WHAT does watching TV accomplishes? Anything that one does that dies not accomplish anything is a waste of time. And if one continue in wasteful behavior over and over again, we say it is stupid. So the topic is right "Watching TV is a stupid waste of time"

2. What you see on TV is not real hence are a distortion of reality. Hence the one distorting the reality will always do so to promote their own agendas. To manipulate the reality to support their course.

3. TV programmes turn out to be programmes to programme the common man into the zombies of the elites.

Preface

Usually TV is a non-concern for me, concerning all the things that bog up my time. But for the post's sake:

The Stand

I like to declare that I am FOR THE MOTION!

The Points

I think the primary reason that I just am willing to be for the motion is the fact that it simply is that, a waste of time. The qualifier "stupid" is a redundancy to just being a "waste of time" - by the very fact of it being a "waste of time" already is a negative stigma. For TVs can make people addicted to the screens, those very people always promising themselves one more second, or one scene in this case, that then will they leave to do something. It certainly has to have a hypnotic quality to become a "waste of time" in the first place.
To expand my first point, TVs, despite whatever content it has now, have a good chunk of their screen time being full of advertisements. For while ads may not be inherently bad, wastes time of watching the show that they want to get through. Which, following the motion, is a pretty big waste of time, but might I say is clever that it at least obeys the tenet of TV content, being watchable.
To go even further, despite the educational shows that are on, they have to sell the TV-goer with ads, that already are taking screen-time from the show, and talk how good the product their sponsors are making. Now whether the ads and sponsored product is good or not, matters not. The point of clarity is the fact that educational content can be mixed in with completely irrelevant content that matters not to even the grandeur scope of that particular content. If the ad/sponsor is directly tied to the content, it's by a miracle that it works - but there has been a trend that sponsors are at least finding their appropriate fields, but not so much regular-random ads.
Even if we were to relax the talk about ads and sponsors, the content on TV can always been found on the internet in probably two-four searches to approximate the actual content. But for TV, there's a lot of wait time to find that specific content that specifically plays during that time every week (or day if it's a daily show). Even so, we record shows nowadays which defeats the purpose of waiting around for it to broadcast and now we waste time just by catching up on what we missed. And this is the truest form of it being a "waste of time" - that we make a duty to spend time catching up on TV content when that time could be spent elsewhere we at least can feel we done something done feel bad after binge-watching a show.
To actually go on the binge-watching aspect a little bit more, it's becoming a phenomenon to binge-watch a show that hasn't been seen in the TV scene since even its inception. Things like Netflix and Amazon Prime certainly do benefit and continue to promote this behaviour - to the point we make jokes like "Netflix and chill" (though yes I know it's unrelated somewhat) because we know this ridiculousness of this TV-going paradigm. In fact, it plays on the disappointment that TV-goers have faced with TV in recent times, but it also plays on desperate latching unto a possibility of watching just a decent show for long lengths of time - thus one of the many causes of binge-watching which plagues human activities must be outright stated as-is, with no scent of resentment or tolerance of such status it may have.
Even if we were to put all those points to the aside, there's still one problem that TVs cannot do truly: have many apps, sites and tabs up at the same time while having tons of information at one tab at any time. Id est, the computers and phones have the ability to truly multi-task where the TV just plays one show or app at a time. Exampli gratia, I can have YT playing in the background while I play a game like Half Life 2 or make a wicked meme on Photoshop.
To develop this tangent even further, I can access at any time a library's worth of content on a site that can be bookmarked on the spot. TVs are, as aforementioned, glorified recording boxes that I have to sift through and eventually pin-point the exact times I want to use for any research. If I want to use a quote but I feel lazy to write word-for-word, I can copy and paste it from somewhere in the Internet.
To go even further, the TV's ability to play things "Live" has been dwarfed by the likes of LiveLeak, Twitch.TV, YouTube Live and so on and so on that traditional TV companies are migrating to YT to rake in some of the new cash to be earned. (But YT is currently suffering an "adpocalypse" which may never be resolved, and may even continue further.) In fact, the project like DLive should be shamelessly promoting itself to earn a slice of the internet pie.
To go unto points of what TV has done to society in general that is mainly negative. One major point, which I wouldn't be surprised is echo in another fashion, is the general destruction of the attention span of generations affected by the TV. It had gotten so bad that we only are seeing a recovery now thanks to parents intervening more in the millennial generation's life than the boomer generation's parents had done. And the TV had done it by progressively promoting and rewarding TV shows that conform to the thirty-minute episode structure which later feeds to a generation that has only known attention-grabbers and knew not how to focus hard on important details for good lengths of time.
To go further, TV had destroyed patience along with attention span (which play off each other). With the general trend of thirty-minute episodes, people would passively over time accept that things can come quick than they usually do. Which conversely made people pathologize waiting forever for things to happen, it must happen on the minute. Once-more, I should clarify that the trend of patience-decay is reversing nowadays.

It is easy to see that watching Tv is a big waste of time, considering the way 95% of human watch TV.

Negative news all day long!
Useless movies etc.
Violence Is the order of the day of our screens today. What do you want to do with all that violence that you are watching all day long?
Such violence can only intoxicate our children, no wonder school shootings are only increasing in this generation.
It is a stupid waste of time because the time you waste does not stop when your stop looking at the screen. Even when are walking on the street you may catch yourself completely wrapped up in the thoughts of a TV show! And you at even waste more time as you discuss TV shows with friends who are watching the same shows.

I don't think watching TV is a big waste of time for following reasons.

Reason 1 .My grandparents had no TV. They had 12 children. I don't want 12 children
Reason 2 . Watch David Attenborough's masterpiece planet earth.

Reason 3. I just watched the world cup on TV just gone and experienced the same highs and lows as my grandparents did when they found out they were having yet another child.

Reason 3: you can do house chores while you are watching it: ironing, cooking, folding laundry...

Reason 1: When an individual is watching TV they can be so submerged into the show that they are ignorant to their surroundings or environment.
Reason 2: People their mind productively when they are watching TV the show requires the viewer to give all their attention and brainpower to "watch", which is almost always useless
Reason 3: If a person is capable then they could alter your TV's screen to display inappropriate images or videos when your children are watching with you.
Reason 4: Constantly watching television reduces the number of activities a person can participate in leading them to become lazy and a victim of health problems.
Reason 5: Most television viewers are kids and you have no control over what ads are shown on TV.
Reason 6: Most TV shows are boring and it takes time, which is precious, to scroll through all the options and find one that is entertaining to you.
Reason 7: People don't usually watch TV for news, most of the time they watch entertaining shows which don't contain very useful information
Reason 8: I watch TV when I'm having food, but I've noticed that people do not communicate while watching something very often, mostly its when they find something interesting to share otherwise it's just quite.

I am AGAINST this statement

Watching TV can help to expand your imagination. Who hasn’t pretended to be a super hero they saw on TV or part of that crime show you watched?
Watching TV can make you think. It can be a bit silly like Ancient Aliens, Making a Murder, Myth busters or a hard hitting documentary but your mind will be working as you try to know the truth.
It can help build powerful relationship through sports team. If you didn’t have a parent that watched games with you this might not apply but I know my connection with my father and uncles is related to our local sports teams and how much fun we had watching those game.
It can show you places you will never get to go. This one is just obvious as you can go all over the world in one night.
It can teach you. I know you have to go and look for these shows but they are there. Also it is a tool that can be used to show videos that are just meant to teach.
It can relax you. Had a hard day? Sit down and watch your favorite shows and you will forgot about it for a while.
It is cheap. Basic TV is free and if you look at your entertainment cost per hour of use TV will be one of the cheapest.
News, when not fake and just local it keeps you knowing what is going on in your city. Also in the world if you know where to look.
Movie Nights, from one with your family to the Halloween scary move marathon with your friends all need that TV.
It can teach life lessons. I don’t know about you but I learned a few things from shows like Wonder Years or in Stand by Me that some grow ups just don’t want to talk to you about.

I am for this statement

Reason 1: I have not had a tv for 25+ years now.
Reason 2: I did not watch it much when I did have it.
Reason 3: There is not one thing on there I am interested in.
Reason 4: When I do see tv anywhere it dramatically messes with my eyes and brain function.
Reason 5: I know other people without tv that have the same trouble above when they see it.
Reason 6: Only a few companies produce the "programming" and they are not good guys.
Reason 7: I try to avoid being programmed as much as I can.
Reason 8: My son grew up without tv, and he cannot relate to people who do watch it.
Reason 9: Reason 8 applies to my son's other friends who grew up with tv.
