Having the option of hiding your username when you downvote someone

While not everyone will take it personally, as Steemit grows I can potentially see this as something that would cause a view of negativity towards another user.

I've seen it directly cause bad blood between people, especially when money/cryptocurrencies are involved. I think having the ability to hide your name when you downvote will potentially fix this issue :)

*note I do not condone mass downvoting.

No even then I don't think it would work. Because SP is indivisible and the amount needs to be public to the blockchain, people could do blockchain analysis to link stealth balances together by their SP amount. If you only allow voting with limited approved values (say powers of 2) you might be able to hide among people who also vote with the same power of 2 SP amount (which I guess would work for normal users but not make much of a privacy difference to whales). But even that limited privacy would still take a ridiculous amount of engineering effort to do, which is not worth it in my opinion.

Plus, I like the fact that we can see who upvoted and downvoted.

I like the transparency also. It makes the passive-aggressive people think twice before venting their rage with a downvote.

This is a very interesting take.

You haven't seen anything yet. The trolls haven't even arrived.

A troll will get muted by many people. Steem service providers are not required to make it easy on them.

You going to waste your vote on it? That will be the problem.

There is a mute button on the accounts.. I don't think it consumes voting power.

There'll always be some greedy ones exploiting the system, and it's being worked on to lower their influence. The majority doesn't vote for direct profits only. And it's the thoughtful thing to do, because a platform full of spam won't be worth anything.

I enjoy the transparency, there's been one or two things I've seen so far that I've thought I should down vote. After taking the couple seconds thinking it through, knowing my name would show up and realizing it was just a personal opinion of mine, I moved on simple as that.

Doesn't mean bullshit can't be down voted but the transparency helps as a reminder to think about the choice before executing.
