Most people that attended the Kansas City Steem Party Summer of 2017 have already made a post about it, so I won’t spend much time talking about it here.
Besides, I came to the party later than I would have liked due to work obligations, but at least I did make it.
I also didn’t get the chance to meet most of the people that attended,
@stellabelle, @virtualgrowth, @jacobts, @jessamynorchard, @pierrefilms, @rebeccabe, @reedracer, @sylviategan, @alfonso1003, @clickinchicken, @goatgarden, @fungusmonk. @jasonrussell, @melodyrussell, @papapeppers, @little-peppers
but I’m sure I’ll have future opportunities to do so.
Why such confidence?
Because having face to face meetings is something that we humans need to do. It’s in our nature. We are social creatures that have tangible needs.
The fact that members of an online virtual community are willing travel and take the requisite time and money to meet up in real life is something to consider. If virtual communities were all that we required to satisfy our needs for fellowship then making such commitments of valuable assets just wouldn’t happen.
We would simply just stay in our pajamas in front of our computer screens with our unkempt hair and uncivilized odors.
We all have our “real lives” with real names and real issues that command our real attentions. The idea of making ourselves vulnerable by adding new people to our already crowded circles of influence can almost feel unnecessarily overwhelming.
Who has the time to make new Real Life Friends (RLF’s)? It is this aspect of these casual meetups, I’m coining (pun intended) as Steem-Ups, however, that will make the platform of Steemit something so unique that it will virtually (pun intended again) guarantee it’s continued success.
As unique groups form within Steemit Nation they will be able to Steem-Up on a regular basis so to give encouragement, practical help, and even opportunities to engage in peer to peer commerce.
Encouragement to know that the time spent creating valuable content on the blockchain is going to benefit real people that have real faces. Steem-Ups will give individual Steemians that little extra oomph to keep on Steeming On! There is strength in numbers!
Practical help in the forms of work parties, workshops, seminars, conferences and hands on experience. Who doesn’t need a helping hand from time to time. These Steem-Ups can afford such opportunities.
Peer to peer commerce for those that have tangible goods and services that they would like to exchange with one another via their virtual wallets.
I would like to see my fellow Steemians take the bull by the horns and start announcing Steem-Ups in their respective localities as frequently as they can. Taking virtual friends and making them RLF’s.
