The market correction of the past week, perhaps mainly due to the banning of ICO's in China, has to be seen as a buying opportunity for your favourite crypto-currencies. This news had little direct effect on Steem, in the short term at least, and so why the drop from $1.50 to almost $1?
People are buying/selling/trading crypto 24/7. The prices are volatile and many traders are in for a fast buck, jumping from coin to coin. Bitcoin, the current king of crypto-currency, has a bad day, and the rest catch a cold.
The trick is to buy when you see lows. Daily/Weekly/Monthly/Yearly - the longer the time period, the 'smaller' the risk in most cases.
Yesterday i saw a monthly low in the Steem price ($1.05 approx), as i did last month. Yesterday I bought 1 Ether of Steem, as I did last month.
And of course, it's Powered Up for safe keeping.
Which means more voting power, and larger rewards for my followers comments and their blogs. Everyone is a winner :)
I ain't no trader, but when you see a large dip in price it could be a time to buy a bit more Steem and Power Up!

Nice catch there. It was a good weekend for coin shopping. I was kind of surprised the major coins like BTC and ETH were affected by the news like they were. It's not like they're going anywhere. I guess that's why it's called panic selling.
On a separate note, you gotta love blocktrades. They make it so easy to convert other coins to STEEM and put it in your account for you. I've been using them pretty frequently lately.

The markets are so heavily traded these days that any news good or bad is an excuse to pump/dump and buy/sell accordingly. I'm less interested in doing this, especially with Steem as I prefer to hold mine in Steem Power.

My personal opinion is that the drop in gold and silver (the old store of value) was due to the rise of the crypto-currency (the new store of value).
Market manipulation is everywhere, and i suspect a judgement day regarding the metals is coming... although I've been saying that for a few years now!

Yes that price and the previous dip around 0.9 was great but I am waiting for a bigger pull back. Under 0.80 and I will be loading up. Just seems very probable, even though I believe in purchasing over $2. still.

Yes we are not clear of the $ yet, and I can see more trips below. The deal is with Steem that you don't have to sit on a loss when the price falls, because it holds a different style of value as Steem Power. cheers!
