The 30 accounts that have the most Resteems in common with you

in steem •  6 years ago  (edited)

Time for another information gathering exercise - Will it be useful / interesting? If so, make your request below!

A piece of advice I often hand out to new starters is to follow the tags they use and check out who is posting in their subject areas of interest. At present, without the activity levels we saw at the beginning of last year, it shouldn't be that hard to get to know who is a regular in your favourite tags. The reason I suggest this is that I think that a well-timed and interesting comment on their work gives the new recruit visibility and from that, the possibility of a visit from authors who may well be interested in their work. There is also a chance that other commentators will see and read this comment, and as they are visiting this blog then they could well see knowledge in the subject area and pay a visit too.

So that's one method of finding people with common interests, what else have we got?

As far as I know (but I could be wrong), but I don't think there is a web application that gives you details of who has Resteemed (and consistently liked) the same content as you. As I'm writing this, I'm wondering if this metric could be used as a follow/friend suggestion, a bit like what is seen on busy.org:

busy.org showing me some 'interesting' people, based on.... errr....

Hey, this account has Resteemed 10 posts that you have also, maybe they like the same content as you?

Could be more interesting?

So that's my reasoning for hacking away with some code this evening. A reasonably simple self-join on the table in SteemSQL called 'Reblogs' - where all our Resteems are housed.

My 30 Resteemers in common

So most of these accounts I recognize at least, but many I don't visit often enough to gauge if they are Resteeming (enjoying?!) the same content as me.

I'm not sure Ginabot is ready, or indeed if we are, for a:

X has Resteemed a Post that you Resteemed too!

But some script working behind the scenes to present your Resteemers in common could be something to present on a UI somewhere?

Alright then, who wants a table as per the above? And what are the chances you'll go see what the accounts in common are up to content-wise?

If this helps even one person make a connection with someone who has similar interests I'll be happy :)

Cheers!

Asher

I don't need it, as I can do my own very easily, but I love the idea!

Edit: my apologies for choosing this comment to test whether adding/removing #sbi-skip is handled correctly by SBI bot. I just sponsored @abh12345 for 3 SBI to make up for my comment being propelled to the top of the thread.

haha :D

Well thank you very much!

Yeah the idea's are sometimes the tough part, I was thinking about presenting an accounts most popular Resteem buddies and then this one came to mind.

Cheers for the SBI's, I'm collecting a few of these at present :D

I've been thinking about getting back into publishing some BI analysis again now that SBI is mostly automated... and yes, the ideas are the tough part!

#sbi-skip

You should. utopian-io is waiting :D

I made it on your list! 😁 I also see many familiar names along with two good friends on there: @davemccoy and @palikari123. That’s a good thing we share the same interests since we’re also friends. No need to produce a list for me but nice to see the queries back. Thanks Asher 🙂

Omg, I made it onto your friends list. Wooooohoooooo!

Lol, this friend is behind with socializing on steemit.

Glad to have content in common with you :)

Are you sure you don't want a list, it's a quick job this time?

Thank you Asher but I’m okay. 🙂 A lot of the posts I resteem are for community projects or are related to my favorite witnesses. Some personal ones here and there and one oops resteem.

I’m surprised I have so many resteems when I try not to resteem often and press my opinion onto others. One year of activity adds up. A few months of non-activity does too 😬.

Well then you could find out who else likes the same community projects and witnesses as you :D

One year of activity adds up. A few months of non-activity does too

Sure does, especially the latter!

I know most already that share the same interests. Steemit is not a very big world. Will be sure to stop by for your next list. Appreciate it though!

Of course you made the list... you are the ultimate in understanding things! Even when you're on vacation you seem to know everything going on! Congrats

To be included here is an honor! And to be ahead of @beeyou is an even bigger honer since she's generally on top of things ;)

Well, this ought to be interesting, @abh12345. I have no idea how this is going to turn out, so if you don't mind doing your data magic for me, I will greatly appreciate it.

For the record, I've never heard of riseofth, either.

I would love one of these tables Asher :) I have just been thinking about ways to use Resteems as a useful metric in serving up content for a front end actually :) Great minds and all that. have also talked about this RE curation with @markangeltrueman in the past and we have had good success using methods that iterate based on resteems from an initial seed of trusted "followed" feeds. Cheers - Carl
