Email Inventor - Ray Tomlinson

Gmail? Yahoo? HotMail? Everything is there thanks to the central role of Ray Tomlinson. He is known as the inventor of Email or Electronic Mail. Today email now has a very important role in communicating quickly. Email is used to exchange messages quickly through the internet. Ray Samuel Tomlinson's real name is Raymond Tomlinson. Raymond Tomlinson (here I am briefly becoming Ray Tom) was born in 1941. He was born in the suburbs of Amsterdam which certainly existed in New York, United States (US). Like other great people, Ray Tom was born in a small rural environment called Vail Mills and has a modest family.

Then why did he become the founder of email? It started when he studied at a school called Broadalbin Central School, which was located in Broadalbin, New York. At the school Ray Tom began to like the world of technology, especially computers. He learned a lot about networking, programming, and everything he learned about everything related to the internet and computers, was that cool right? Because of his ability and love for the field of computer technology and also the internet, Ray Tom continued his education journey at a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute university.

Then Ray Tom graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute university in 1963, and Ray Tom received an education degree as a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. It turned out that Ray Tom's educational journey did not come here, he continued again with the aim of getting a master's degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1967, Ray Tomlinson then joined a company called BBN Technologies, in this company then the ARPANET network Protocol and also the implementation of Telnet was developed besides Ray Tomlinson also wrote a program called SNDMSG which was the embryo of e-mail. SNDMSG is an application that is able to send messages to others through a network which was then refined in 1971.

There is one important problem at that time that was faced by Ray Tomlinson, namely how to find his email can distinguish messages directed out of the network and other messages can be addressed to other computer users. Ray Tomlinso then studied the keyboard when he was interested in the @ symbol that was on the keyboard as a guide to the address of an email user. the first e-mail message sent says "QWERTYUIOP". This is the most historic message sent through the ARPANET network which was later known to be an Internet network. Ray Tomlinson was later known as the inventor of Email which was very useful for humans.
