This seems like an effect of having more steemers around these days. More posts same amount of time equals less time per post for reading. Posts are making more money, but way fewer folks seem to care.

New to steem myself, and still trying to figure it out. Is it normal to have one post with 220 votes make under 2 dollars while another with 180 makes 70?

A lot of those guys in the 220 vote post are probably part of an app that lets you pool your steem power together so the owner of the app can reward hundreds of posts which has an affect of diluting the reward. The other post probably caught the attention of a few whales that gave you 100% of their voting power.

Thanks for the info; I do hope people come on here to enjoy the creators and not just to make and spend. There is a lot of good work on here:)

Oh ya, lots of interesting stuff on this platform and the people are well informed too. Best advice I can give you is fine some 'bigger fish' people with more steem power that have the same interest as you and comment on their posts. Have some good conversations with them and they will quickly follow you.

Not sure what a big fish is but there are plenty of creators I admire on here , like yourself.

Yeah. This place is an oligarchy. Each account has money invested. many of the originals did some coding then they had a massive inflation, and now they have a shit ton of steem. When you upvote and you have a lot of steem power it rewards you a lot. If you upvote and you don't have that steem your vote isn't worth shit. So, you'll get used to posts with 400 votes worth practically nothing and a few posts that have 5 votes initially and are worth a lot.

I believe there are some accounts which invested nothing but time (though we all have that little SP when we started out, not sure how that works). But you're right - those with the most SP have that curation power which those with very little SP have (which unfortunately I belong to the latter hahaha).

I was gonna upvotes this post without reading it, but then I realized I wouldn't be able to comment on it. Sometimes I just skim the headlines and vote on things that seem interesting, and only actually look at a few posts. Some of them I come back and read later. It would be nice to have a list of posts we've upvotes to read later.
