One can buy Steem from various sources. Cryptocurrency exchanges viz. Bithumb, Binance, Huobi, Upbit, Bittrex, Poloniex, HitBTC, GOPAX etc. facilitate to buy or sell Steem. One can buy Steem in fiats or can buy Steem by exchanging other cryptocurrencies into Steem.
In India, one cannot buy Steem directly from fiats. In fact, many Indian cryptocurrency are not allowing an investor to buy cryptos directly in INR because of restrictions imposed by the Indian Central Bank, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from July this year. My cryptocurrency enthusiasm started in 2018. After Steemit account opening, I was looking for the opportunity to buy Steem and power up. So, I opened my cryptocurrency account on zebpay. I bought Bitcoins in INR and then transferred them to my Binance wallet. I exchanged Bitcoins into Steem. From my Binance wallet, I send Steem to my account. So, it was my first buying of Steem. But, now many Indian cryptocurrency exchanges are not accepting INR deposits. It has become difficult to buy cryptos in India in INR. Despite of these restrictions imposed by RBI, one can trade in cryptos through various methods:
LocalBitcoins provides an opportunity to buy or sell cryptos directly in INR. This is the direct contact method between the buyer and the seller.
Mycelium Local Trader is similar to LocalBitcoins. Buyers and sellers meet in person to complete the transaction.
WazirX is a p2p trading platform. This platform connects the buyers and the sellers while acting as an escrow account.
Instashift is also a p2p crypto trading platform and is similar to WarirX. Popular crypto exchange Koinex has also started a P2P trading platform to buy cryptos in INR.
It becomes easy to buy Steem after buying Bitcoin or other popular cryptocurrencies. Now, the user can open his/her trading account on any crossboarder crptocurrency exchange and buy Steem from cryptos. You can save your Steem in your steemit wallet or steemwallet.app or Vessel wallet.
The first few times I bought it on Poloniex, then later on I used Blocktrades to convert BTC to Steem.
You can also create Steem acounts with blocktrades, for about 2 steem last I checked.

yeah and with blocktrades if you fund your steem account they are instantly created.. no waiting for weeks or months like some think you have to do.
