Steemit CEO & Co-Founder Ned Scott Just Shared a Bunch of Exciting News About What's to Come

in steem •  8 years ago  (edited)

Steemit CEO and Co-Founder Ned Scott announced today plans to add heavily requested new features to Steemit. These heavily requested features will include private messaging, notifications and possibly more prominent follow buttons.

With the addition of private messaging, notifications, and more prominent follow buttons, the Steemit team hopes to allow more contact between Steemit members, but also attract new users from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram who are already used to the functionality of such common features.

Ned Scott had this to say regarding the expected new features:

“Enhancing the diversity of our application-specific blockchain is a natural progression for Steemit. Private messaging is perfectly suited for a decentralized system and will empower users in a similar way to how direct messages empower users on Twitter. The ‘follow’ feature will enable community members to receive notifications as soon as their favorite authors post, and the notifications will work just like Facebook in that users will be alerted immediately upon a new post or upvote from their favorite contributors. These features are the pillars of current social media giants and we look forward to integrating them into Steemit over the coming weeks.”

With Steemit becoming the number one destination for bloggers and with the current and growing 70,000 user base that accounts for the 70,000 votes and more than 21,000 posts each day, the implementation of these new features feels like the natural progression of any blogging or social media platform.

In addition, Ned Scott had also this to say regarding the implementation of the new features:

“We hope to offer people much more than Reddit and Facebook, by simply elevating the user experience and rewarding users for their time, Steemit has a fighting chance to compete with the largest social networks. We still have a lot of work to do and we have a lot of room to grow, but on the whole we see this system as more than a new social network, but as the bedrock for an online social economy. Developers and entrepreneurs are recognizing they can go straight to the Steem blockchain to leverage its data, identities, posts and other content. It’s very inspiring to see so much activity on the Steem blockchain.”

Well, I for one am excited about what's to come on Steemit, and I look forward to the implementation of these new features.

Leave a comment below and let me know what are your thoughts of these new features that are to come on Steemit? And what other features could Steemit use that aren't currently in the pipeline?

Sounds great.

Now all we need is an incentive to remain powered up that balances against the incentives of receiving liquid dividends for powering down.

Yes it does @blakemiles84!

I'm sure that those incentives will reveal themselves with time. The team at Steemit is making great progress by the day, and most importantly listening to our voices, and integrating great features along the way.

With that being said, what could a great incentive be for us to remain powered up? What are your thoughts?

I didn't want to be that guy promoting his own posts in comment threads, so thank you for asking :)

I wrote this a few weeks back when I first identified this as an equivalent to a nicked vein leading to a slow bleed out:

Steemit Improvement Idea: Variable Power Up/Down Option

Nice attitude about linking your posts in the thread of another.

That's great news.... Can't wait for private messaging.

I'm looking forward to the private messaging as well @bola, and I hope that it's the first feature that they implement.

great post :) @albertfall

Thanks @bola!

21,000 posts each day.

Whaaat?! Yeah, I think it's time we get better filters for posts.

Yup, at 21,000 posts a day, it really is time for better post filters @socalguy.

This is such a small feature that I'm sure that it's overlooked, but hopefully it is addressed soon as well.

Private messaging is so needed! Great to hear!

Indeed @geke! I look forward mostly to the private messaging feature as well. Let's hope we see the private messaging feature deployed sooner than later.

Can't wait for pm's and notifications. Great news.

Indeed @iamron! Those are the features that we've all been waiting for.

Nice, right on. Right on. !!

Right on @fast2future!

Awesome this is terrific news! It will help bring more new users to the platform!

Yes it will @acassity!

These new features will level out the playing field for Steemit, and attract new users from other social media platforms, which is a great thing for the community.

@albertfall Private messaging would be very beneficial!
Having steemit-chat in the interim sure helps in the meantime.
Having a "Follow" button on the main screen would be good too.
Thank you for sharing.

Got to appreciate https://steemit.chat for now, but I know how you feel!

Thanks for sharing the Steemit.chat link with us @papa-pepper! I have yet to give it a try but I will soon enough.

You're welcome @albertfall.
You can practice by sending a message to papa-pepper if you want.

Thanks for joining the conversation @virtualgrowth!

Private messaging would be beneficial, and the current Steemit Chat is a great interim feature.

I also agree with you that a big and prominent follow button on the main screen of each profile page would be a great tweak to the already existing follow button.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

good news.

Yes it is @lemooljiang!

Just to add that tweeter on steem Blockchain just launch for alpha test.
u can try it at squeek.io more to come on steem blockchain.

Hi @pnc,

I'm having a little trouble understanding the first part of your comment:

Just to add that tweeter on steem Blockchain just launch for alpha test.

Can you please elaborate?

Cheers!

Having the follow button were very easy to see our favorite original authors. Getting notifications will be easier to get quick on the uptake...Just wondering if the share buttons to social media will be coming very soon next month. If not, still happy with DM.

The share button to social media platforms could be a huge benefit to Steemit @cybercodetwins. It could draw new users to Steemit who have previously been unaware that Steemit even existed.

Got to agree with you that if that isn't in the pipeline for Steemit in the near future, the private messaging is still something that I'd be happy with as well.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Cheers!

We hope to offer people much more than Reddit and Facebook

I think they will be able to offer much more than FB does, @albertfall

Absolutely @alitas! I can't wait for the new features to be live.

some kind of way to make groups would be a good addition. Posts in other languages than English hardly ever becomes trendy. This is okay for me but it would be nice to find this content more easily. whether some kind of group system will help this?

Now if I try to look for in the "Tags and Topics" box "Finland" or "suomi" I can not find anything... only 5.439 million people in finland. So therefore I do not going to find Finnish-written content ever? Do you understand what is the problem here?

Hi @viljo!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, and I absolutely understand your frustration with finding content in other languages.

I guess there could be two sides to this problem. The first is as you mentioned, the searching or grouping options of such content which is something easily addressable by the Steemit team by making changes to the search, tags, and categories options.

The second which you also mentioned is the lack of such content. This cannot be addressed solely by the Steemit team, and its something that they would need our help with.

By spreading the word on Steemit, not only in our online communities but also our offline communities, we can help increase the user base, which should affect the type of contents that we see, including content in other languages.

The more internationals users that we have, the more diverse content we'll start seeing. My suggestion to anyone reading this is to start spreading Steemit to your online and offline communities.

I hope that my thoughts on this helped you find some answers to your questions.

Thanks again for joining in.

Cheers!

Give us more :)

Thanks for the support @iggy! Will do.

I think this far most of what has happened to Steemit as far as progression has been very beneficial. I have always been amazed at how many talented and capable individuals are working so hard on helping to ensure the continual success and improvement of Steemit.

Thanks for the great post and info @albertfall!

Thanks for joining the conversation @papa-pepper!

I couldn't agree more with you that it really is amazing how fast the team behind Steemit is working on adding new features, improving existing features, and keeping the website from crashing.

Can you imagine how great the platform will be once Steemit is out of beta testing? I can't wait for that day.

Thanks again for the support @papa-pepper.

Exciting times ahead for us to be sure, Sir.

Indeed Sir!

Also, Sir, you are very good at what you do and have great communication skills. I've just learned a few things from you right now!

Thanks for the compliments @papa-pepper, and I hope that whatever you have learned from me helps you in some way, form or shape.

Thanks @albertfall, I'm already applying it and I'm sure that it will.
