What happened to the Steem price? what made it drop so drastically. Explanation. Theories. Conclusion.

I bet we all check current steem/sbd prices.
But what really happened behind them to make it all fall so low after reaching the sky. There are few theories, but lets find out which of them is more correct and will the prices keep falling or will they stay steady.

Theory 1.

So as steemit is a very new website and it has been paying out only for the past 3 weeks. This theory involves the new thing rise. As it started paying everyone got excited and started buying a lot of steem from there pockets, so obviously there was 1000% more buys then sells. This allowed steem to rise to the sky due to Massive demand. And since everything settled down demand is very low at the moment as i am inspecting both bittrex/poloniex daily.
No surprise that the prices had to go down, but why well its very simple if you want to sell and nobody wants to buy what you do yes that is correct you reduce the price until it satisfies buyers.

Theory 2.

This one is more theoretical due to the nature of the theory involving the hacker, but nothing crazy or unbelievable either. Two weeks ago hacker took down the website and managed to hack alot of steemit accounts. According to @ned he drained around $85000 dollars, what instantly made a black hole on steem "a flaw in security if i earn 1mln dollars hes or someone else will hack me and drain me out". Security is very important where the money are involved. So its all clear hacked=no trust and that makes prices drop drastically. And then after the hacker the website itself had many updates, down times to implement all the security features what caused website and the market being not operational another big minus to the steem. "I go buy some steem, wtf its not selling oh nvm ill go buy etherium forget about steem".

Conclusions

In Fact both of the theories are real, and both of them done the part in the steem fall down. Otherwise if there only was 1 disaster instead f two, the steem would recovered by now. For now in my opinion i would say steem/sbd will keep vary from mid-high to low for them 2 theories and being a new currency until it will find its place in the market.

Thank you hope this makes things clear of what? and why?

85000$ is nothing.. STEEM is naturally devaluating as it doubles every year. Therefore there is no reason to take a long position on STEEM, unless you believe that it's value grows considerably harder that the natural rate of devaluation. It's not an attractive buy for traders that are not focussed on intraday movements. The main reason to buy STEEM is to power up on the site, so it's related to the utility of having a strong position within the STEEM community. Also, if you choose not to power up, and wish to sell, than there is a natural force to sell sooner than later, thus selling for a price that guarantees quick conversion.

STEEM is not a speculation coin, it's a utility based framework.

My expectation is that we will only see an increase in STEEM value, if the value of the community more than doubles each year. That should be our joint target ;)

I'm new here but I see people are shorting it at the mo -

Have you seen the trading volume on polonieX for ETC lately?
