It's a pity that steemit doesn't provide a thumbnail option as is improves the readability and increases click-rates. But don't worry, you can use your own thumbnail with a little workaround.
How steemit thumbnails work
Steemit uses the first image of your post as a thumbnail. This image will be cut to an aspect ratio of 130 : 77. The desktop version of steemit displays the thumbnail with a resolution of 130 x 77. However, the mobile version sets the width to a maximum of 100%. That means that the image will shown as a whole, there is no cropping. Because the mobile layout is active when the browser width is less than 760px, the maximum possible width of the thumbnail is 511px.
2 Steps for using your own thumbnail
- Create an image of 640px width and 379px height. This resolution will look nice on your post and there will be no cropping.
- Use this image as your first image in the post
This works pretty well, but it would be good to have an extra option for the thumbnail. What do you think?
