Let's not forget that Steem and SBD don't have to grow extremely quickly or even keep pace with Bitcoin / the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap to be successful. Ironically, Bitcoin's price volatility (vs USD, etc) has caused it to be less useful as a currency short term and has been a major factor in some retailers stopping accepting it. I am an investor as well, but speculative price increases do not always correlate to long term adoption and use. Plus steemit is still in 'beta'! Plenty of time left.
