So just think about how much harder it will be in another six months as more and more people compete for an ever decreasing supply relative to the users numbers.

Often posts have incredible amounts of upvotes. When I started almost three months ago I was lucky to have a few whales drop by a couple of times and that was awesome. But it hasn’t happened anymore since. No sweat though, I keep writing about what interest me.

Lack for better words, this is definitely food for thought when writing on Steemit. I've heard many times that being a good writer these days are a bare minimum requirement and you need to stand apart from the crowd to build an interest.
With 300,000+ accounts at the current date, engagement becomes just as necessary as quality. There are also many good curation efforts throughout the platform, but being persistent and providing fresh topics, perspective, and style will help you reach more people.
What I gathered from reading your post was a breath of relief in a way. A good post can be about anything, and if people view it as valuable, you will get the votes!

Early adopters usually always do well if something takes off in the crypto-world. Think about people that mined 50 bitcoin a day with GPUs back when it was new and not so many people cared. If something gets popular its harder and harder to get more, but we are still in the early stages.
