As new users join steemit it is so important to have them be able to understand what everything means. Even though I am somewhat well versed, I applaud people helping others and making the overall experience more user friendly. Hope everyone welcomes and helps the minnows trying to figure everything out and realize you were probably in this position not too long ago.

Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:
Submit
Keep it up! There are so many ways to add value and when you think of an idea it's fun to share it and make everything better for all users instead of hoarding it so nobody can "steal your idea" it's somewhat similar to GitHub in that respect. Coders are usually willing to share their content, similar to how an artist shares artwork
