Summary: Not sure where to start? Neither did I. This is a guide to those who are now just joining the Steemit community (like myself). At the time of writing this article, I've made my account a while ago and am now planning to become an active member after deciding the content I wanted to share. I am actually writing this as I learn the ins and outs of Steemit as we speak.

Main article: Game Development Undergrad - New Beginnings

Let's get started shall we?

In this post we'll discuss:

  • Toggle night mode
  • What is Steemit?
  • Creating your first post
  • Making your post beautiful
  • Being active

Use Night Mode

Click on your profile at the top right and select "toggle night mode". Now that you're reading this in your preferred state, we can continue on.

What is Steemit?

Steemit is a community that provides digital currency based on quality content. It utilizes a blockchain database to hold user and user content accountable which then rewards them with a cryptocurrency.

Creating Your First Post

Creating a post is easy. You hit the post button and now you have a new canvas to convey your message to the world. I would suggest writing an introduction to the community and use the tags #introduceyourself and #steem if you haven't done so already.

Making Your Post Beautiful

You'll notice when writing your post that Steemit doesn't offer any visual tools to format your writing such as headers, bold , italicize, etc .. other than the Preview window at the bottom of the page you are creating your post. Steemit does use the standard Markdown language that is pretty simple and if you don't know it, you can learn it here.

Being Active

It comes as no surprise that being active in whatever you commit yourself to will give you the best experience possible. I really hope that sticks with anyone reading this as one of the main points in anything you do. Let's talk about being active in Steemit.

  • Upvote your own post
  • Upvote posts you enjoy
  • Comment on posts you enjoy with relevant information
  • Upvote your own comments to increase their value
  • Upvote comments you enjoy
  • Comment on comments on posts you enjoy
  • Follow people who post content you enjoy

You get the point. If you want to construct an active chain, don't wait for people to come to you. Go out and start building. Build hard and build constantly. Soon, you'll find that you built yourself a monument. And no monument was built in a day.
