Hello Steemit
So recently, I was reading justineh's post about D.Tube and 3speak, where she talks about why those services aren't truly decentralized. While reading the article, I noticed that she said that text is decentralized, but any images and videos are not. That got me thinking about something interesting.
If any of you are programmers, you may know about encoding. This is simply bringing one form of data into another. A very common encoding algorithm is Base64, an algorithm that lets you convert binary data to ASCII.
So what does this have to do with anything? You may be asking yourself. Well when I made games in middle school, my school blocked a lot of sites, including any I could use to host images. This frustrated me, and after doing some searching I found out about how to use Base64 to put images and videos directly into your code, as shown in my unfinished game concept DuckDuckGoose. I got to thinking, and realized that videos could be encoded and posted on Steemit, allowing for a truly decentralized video platform hosted directly on the Steemit network.
Of course, there are several problems with this idea. First off, this would put a lot of strain on the Steemit network, as most videos are very large, and would take up a lot of space. Secondly, Steemit has a maximum limit of 65 KB per post, This could be solved by splitting the data into several posts, but that goes into the bloat problem. All in all though, I truly believe that this could be done in one way or another. If anyone wants to join me in this concept, feel free to comment and we could start talking.
Thank you,
