I saw a YouTube ad for this Provoco ICO which is being billed as being a social media app that you can earn crypto currency with. I think we are going to see more and more of these and the space is going to become crowded in a lot of ways. With this particular company their marketing was real good but once again they have no code and they are saying it is basically an Ethereum utility token. A lot of these apps coming out are mainly going to be database driven for most of the content hosting and all that and the one main element that will be blockchain driven will be the payment mechanism. That actually makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons but makes it tough to really have a self governance model that isn't totally ruled by the moderators working for the company who built the app like we see with Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.
The premise is interesting that people can have challenges that people can get paid to participate in. They are going to utilize ERC-233 Smart Contracts. Again I worry that Ethereum will be bogged down and won't scale fast enough for all these companies that say they are building on it so that would worry me. With most of these apps the majority of what will be happening will be database driven. It looks like the company is mainly marketing at this point and doesn't have code out there. They have the interface wire framed out and the general flow of the app thought out.
One that actually got a little further along than I thought is Sola.

I was originally introduced to it by @stackin and put up a post or so but it didn't seem like the token was being traded at that time. Then I saw @papa-pepper with a link on a Steemit blog about it and looked and it seemed like he was more active. I looked into it more and it is getting a little more interesting at this point because the SOL token is being trade on TIDEX now. https://tidex.com/exchange/sol/btc There is a BTC and an ETH market and it looks like it is going for about $0.028.
I have just been testing the app to see how it works. What I haven't determined is how much buying up SOL can influence your ability to earn on there kind of like having STEEM Power.
The most intriguing thing for me is that if it seems like Sola seems like it can drive demand to the SOL token then there could be a chance to be a whale in that project at the price point it is at.
I'm not going to invest in Provoco at this time. I will just keep it in my head and with Sola I'm going to spend minimal time throwing up pictures and memes I already made. Then if I determine it to be sustainable I will probably put $100 into it to see how that works out. Then I might go deeper into it later on.
One thing I want to say is that @papa-pepper got his account locked up for a few days for "spamming" or at least that is what they said. He is back in action now.

Crazy. I've had Sola on my phone for like a month at least but I haven't looked at it very much. Maybe I'll follow suit and throw a few bucks at it with that crazy cheap price point. Would love to be a whale one day haha :)

I got on it and initially looked at it and it didn't seem like there was a market out there for the tokens at that point. Now there is so that kind of changes the game in a way but I haven't totally determined that if I get a bunch of it if it will matter at all.

Yeah I don't know. To me it seems like the tokens can only be used to reward other people. If you like someone's post then you can upvote it, but by doing so you basically send them some of your SOL tokens. I think the Steemit system is so much better, but we will see how Sola plays out.

If there is no advantage to have more SOL or AP in your wallet for more visibility then yeah there is no real point. It is just like tipping someone with extra work involved. It won't utimately work if that is the case. Someone was saying that if you have more AP or SOL then your cards get shown more the way the algorithm is. I don't know if that has gone into effect yet though. That would make more sense and then I get the feeling that by giving more AP to people makes you more visible in their view so that they are more likely to go over to your cards and give AP to them. Honestly I was kind of even doing that with Papa Pepper's cards to say Hi!

Any sort of low friction way for audiences to tip content creators makes sense. That is the use case right there. It's still preferable to having intermediaries like, say, twitch take such a huge chunk to run the service.

I looked into it before and there was sparse material on it, I'm personally hesitant to use it for now but maybe the right time to get in on anything with potential is before it gets any kind of public attention or trading volume. Guess I'll give it a third look, thanks.
