What if I told you there is a way to earn easy Steem Power, while at the same time making Steem a better and cleaner platform? No, it's not a scam, a scheme, or any other kind of shady business.
The truth of the matter, is that each of us has the ability to flag content or comments that are abuse, plagiarism, spam, theft, or illegal in nature. The problem is, we lose voting power when we do this, and see little benefit in it.
It should be said to those new to the platform, that gaining Steem Power is (or at least should be) the primary goal in the Steem ecosystem. Steem Power increases the value of your upvote, increases your influence, and ultimately increases what you can do on this platform. Without Steem Power, it's a rough go.
So what is this win-win solution?
Simple. the solution is @steemcleaners
If you ever come across a post that is theft, identity theft, plagiarism, spam, tag spam, tag abuse etc., report it at https://steemcleaners.org/abuse-report/.
@steemcleaners will take care of them in the appropriate manner, either by warning or downvoting them.
It's not a 100% success rate, as falsely reporting someone else will not reward you, and there may even be consequences for abusing the reporting tool, I don't really know.
But, if you report something first before anyone else to @steemcleaners, they investigate, and if what you reported is indeed abuse, you will get a reward in steem power. It can take a week or two to get the reward, so don't expect instant payouts. However, the payouts are fairly nice considering the effort it takes to earn the reward. I've typically seen payouts between 0.200-0.300 Steem Power for sending a report with solid evidence of abuse.
Like I said before, don't abuse the tool. you should make sure what you're reporting has solid proof, otherwise you're wasting someone else's time.
A really easy abuse to report is photography plagiarism.
For one, it is rampant on the Steem platform and degrades the reputation of Steem as being a place of original content, but as well because checking for photography plagiarism is really easy to do and takes a few seconds.
If you are using chrome browser, just right-click on an image and select Search google for image
from the dropdown menu. It's simple enough to figure out. There are other tools out there as well.
People misusing tags is another easy one to catch. If for example someone posts a picture of their family, but then uses the tag bitcoin
for no apparent reason, this is tag abuse and can be reported, as it again ruins the usability of Steem.
So you might be thinking, "but isn't Steem a platform without any rules?"
Well yeah, that's true, but it's not a video game. We are all real people using Steem, and when someone else does something that harms the platform, or harms someone else, it's going to have consequences all the same.
To top it all off, there is only so much Steem being "printed" each day, so when people post spam, or plagiarism, or some other form of abuse and get upvotes, they are stealing from the pool of rewards they don't deserve.
It is tempting for those new to the platform to start spamming comments and begging for votes, or posting stolen content, but it is much more profitable to report abusers and get paid for doing so. It also ensures a brighter future for the platform, where content creators are not competing with thieves and spammers for views.

You know you have a good point. Generally, when life tosses a flaming bag of dog shit on my doorstep, I ignore it and don't stamp all over it (want burnt crap on your shoes?!) Here, I have done pretty much the same as I want to contribute positively.
When you think about the spammers and plagiarers and abusers, they are not only stealing from you, but all the others like you working to make this place awesome.
I may have to look into that and do my small part in keeping the law in this wild west.
Thanks for sharing that info!
