Why STEEM?

in steem •  7 years ago

Cryptocurrency is on fire and with that more and more questions from individuals and firms are arising.

"Which crypto should I invest?"

"Should I buy high and ride it higher?"

"Should I buy low and HODL?"

"Should I buy the one with the best tech or the one with the hype?"

These are some frequently asked questions in crypto.

My intent with these "Why?" guides is to provide information, context, and as much value as possible to you so that you can best set yourself, your family, and your friends up for the future.

This first guide will explain my perspective on why pick STEEM out of all these cryptocurrencies.

REASON ONE: Capacity

The cryptocurrencies with capacity will prevail.

STEEM as you can see below handled the most transactions in a 24 hr time period with over 918,000 transactions with this only being 0.32% (yes three tenths of a %) of their blockchain capability.

why STEEM.png

Compare that to Ethereum who may process those 780,000 transactions but guess what? That is at 100% of it's capabilities. So you are telling me Ethereum is already maxing out and causing backlogs and STEEM is handling almost a million transactions per day while using less than 1% of their capacity.

One of the main components of scalability is the ability to handle a lot of transactions.

STEEM, built upon the Graphene chain (also created by @dan), has proven it already handling more than 1,000,000 transactions per day without any network backlog caused by capacity issues.

Why would you invest in a blockchain that doesn't have the capacity to handle transactions?

And ever more so why would you invest in a blockchain that is slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

REASON #2: SPEED

Screen-Shot-2016-05-13-at-1.56.18-PM.png

STEEM has near instant transfers.

3 second block confirmation times seems reasonable to me. And with the instant gratification and raised expectations from us humans you really think people, businesses, and governments are going to wait minutes by using Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptos.

Time is money for many individuals, businesses, and governments. So they will looking for the quickest cryptos to transfer money to and from.

Can you imagine walking into a store and paying with Bitcoin and having to wait their 15-45 minutes in the store just for your transaction to be confirmed?

pay pal checkout line screenshot2.jpg

Nope I can't either. I envision walking into a store, pay with STEEM, the merchant confirms the transactions within 3 seconds, and then you are on you way.

Some might put up with the slow transfer speeds of now but as the mainstream adoption grows and more people use crypto for instant money transfers they will flood to STEEM because of how quick its transfers are.

And how low the fees are.

REASON THREE: No fees

no_fees.png

Wait what?!

In this world of being nickeled to dimed to death by banks, credit cards, and now with cryptos can we please have a way to transfer funds without fees.

STEEM has no fees to transfer funds via the STEEM blockchain. Let me say that again NO FEES TO TRANSFER FUNDS.

So why are individuals, businesses, and governments paying sometimes $7-$10 in transactions fees to send Bitcoin?

They don't know about STEEM and you can see the market cap of STEEM reflect that.

Once individuals, businesses, and governements realize they can send funds with STEEM with no fees they will be a rush to STEEM as the crypto for fund transfers such as Bitcoin is now.

This concludes Part One of "Why Steem?"

Hope this brings value to you and hope this helps you make the best decision for yourself, your family & friends, and your livelihood.

Part Two coming soon.

Thank you as always for your time and attention. Means a lot to me.

STEEM and Steemit has such a huge potention - I have real difficulties to express all this in a few simple words. Just sit down, and think a bit what you have already heard, what you have just read even in this post.

This gonna get HUGE. HUGE !

Mark my words...

Amennnnnnnnnnnnnnn such huge potential and can't wait to keep bringing awareness to the potential of STEEM.

Thank you for taking the time to read the post, appreciate you.

Amen!

hey heck of a post here buddy! awesome info. i think the whole steem platform and with steemits potential it will be huger than huge one day but it has to be leaded to there.. and what I see is that people add things in order to create only value more and more like with community's and innitiatives that are fun and exciting right? I think it's a little bit to question also why 0.8% of the steemit capital is minnows and a little amount 4% is dolphins and the rest is whales and exchanges... I mean check out https://steemwhales.com/steemit who besides ned is responsible for important decisions actually ? with this capital it should be easy to recruit the best of the best in the universe to get so much more traffic to come to steem, plus that and the efforts of the community's and stuff should be unstoppable to get even trump on steem or something

Wow thank you buddy appreciate you.

Yeah that is definitely an interesting issue buddy and I am sure it will all work itself out in the long-term. The nice thing for us is that @dan made sure that the STEEM blockchain is open-source so anyone can harness this technology.

Much respect buddy

Super biased and totally spot on, I love it. ;)

Very valid points and one would think that this would be discussed more in crypto world. It almost seems like noone wants to talk about these aspects of Bitcoin these days, I still see interviews where people talk about transactions being instantaneously and cheap - but neither is the case.

So glad we're all here.
Steem on!

Hahaha facts are facts glad you enjoy :)

Rightttttt people are just trying to get a hold of Bitcoin little do they know about the other chains and how much better they are.

Appreciate you and glad we are here as well o weeee

Its a sign! ;cP

The irony is that I kind of lack a step-by-step how to convert Euros to Steem guide... ¬_¬ Yeah... I know that sounds lame but its the main reason I haven't enhanced it so far.

My inadequacies aside however, thank you for the article @chiefmappster. :c)

Great article! It makes so much sense. I think we just have to be patient though and eventually people will catch on. :)

Cheers @chiefmappster

Thank you so much.

And I totally agree we just have to be patient and enjoy the journey :)

Appreciate you

Excellent article. What turns me off with bitcoin is the fees, really expensive especially on the exodus wallet. Then you have to wait sometimes for hours for the transaction to clear. Hopefully over time more people will realize how awesome steem is :)

Thank you so much bud.

And man I am right there with you that's why I stopped using the Exodus wallet for now.

I have a feeling it is only a matter of time till everyone realizes what we do :)

God bless buddy

I am so delighted about everything you wrote, @chiefmappster but everybody seems to know this.

You have left the real issue out, they ( @dantheman and @ned) said via the white paper that the price of sbd will always be pegged to a $1 and as you can see, that price has gone up and it's still gonna go higher and if you want to be sincere, you know it will not go back down except for occasional corrections.

So while should we buy steem and not sbd because if you checked, despite all this beauty that surrounds the steem blockchain, people still don't know about it yet, some people know, but it has definitely not gotten the popularity of ethereum and bitcoin.
I believe it will get that popularity soon, when it does, you know for sure, people will ought for sbd instead of steem, the price of sbd will go up and us we the steem -believers will suffer for it, because steem most likely won't shoot high.

So I will be glad if you would address this issue.

Nevertheless, you just made a great analysis, but there's still a lot of fog surrounding this steem/sbd issue.

I really don't see this as an issue at all. More of an opportunity if anything. More and more people know about the STEEM blockchain because of what is going on.

People give currency value.

And people are starting to realize this. If people want to pay that much for SBD then that is what the current value is.

Appreciate you reading this.

I think I understand you now

Thank you very much, I got a lot of information about Steem. If you can get more posts like this with Steem.

You're very welcome.

Roger that on itttt

Really well discribed with the help of picture nice @chiefmappster
