Lets begin with a clarification:
- I heart Gold.
- I heart Silver.
Libertarians and crypto-anarchists who invest in gold and silver have invested in my company and given me a wonderful platform to wax on about topics most important to me.
They have allowed me to learn about many other topics and expanded my intellectual range.
I've read so many different stories and people I never would have been exposed to otherwise.
The objective in this post is not to present an alternative to owning Gold and Silver, but something that will help complement and round out a Precious Metal portfolio.
So far I've:
Presented Steem and how it works: https://steemit.com/steemit/@clains/i-held-a-presentation-on-steem-on-sunday
Explained how you can make money with Steemit: https://steemit.com/steemit/@clains/how-i-earned-usd100-000-with-steemit
Today's post is about WHY.
I own a nice chunk Gold and Silver, and I plan on accumulating much much more because I believe in holding on to solid, traditional assets.
Concurrently, I believe it is important to create diversity in a portfolio. This can include stocks, cash.... and even STEEM.
I explain how Steem gets its value here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@clains/where-does-the-money-in-steem-come-from
In summary the video explains how Steem is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), that has an internal, digital economy. This is in stark contrast to Gold and Silver, which are atomic elements assembled in heaps.
It is important to stress that for a number of reasons in the short term Steem (like Gold and Silver) can be volatile. That is why it should not be treated as an investment, trade, or speculation but instead as the future of economic organization itself.
Think of Steem as SAVINGS. Again, not an investment, not speculation, not a trade, but savings. This is a great explanation of how any service that becomes an Information-Technology Wins Exponentially:
Libertarians and Anarchists the world over pay to save in gold. Most of this expense goes to traditional gold mines and centralized vaults and services all over the world.
Most of us try to save some of our income. We do this for retirement, emergencies, rainy days, and future Big Macs.
History has proven that saving some of your stored labor (money) in information-technological progress just WORKS over time.
With Steem, there is finally a way to do this efficiently, in small amounts, while gaining utility with your Steem.
Also keep in mind that STEEM can match Gold in all the fundamental properties of money:
- Scarcity: mathematically certain scarcity, no fear of 3D printed- or astroid- gold
- Fungibility: each and every STEEM is 100% STEEM, Guaranteed.
- Divisibility: simple digital divisibility, without a microscope!
- Durability: non-physical assets have infinite durability, no decay!
- Transferability: near speed-of-light worldwide transfers, zero weight!
Libertarians and anarcho-capitalists already know all about the benefits of Gold, Silver and the exciting prospects of traditional economic collapse. Lets balance ourselves out now by diversifying a little, crystallizing some of our earnings into the most rapidly growing form of money and savings.... STEEM!
Just think of all the Big Macs you will able to buy.
^ not a Big Mac!

Why You Should Turn Some of Your Steem Into Gold
When I want to move to a new country with my life savings, it is going to be a lot easier to do that with steem than with silver or gold.

I have stopped accumulating the metals and have been investing in cryptos, Bitcoin, ETH and Steem... I don't think I will change allocations, just yet, but keep adding to positions.

Make sure you differentiate between STEEM , SP and SBD.
I would rather have Silver in my hand although I see potential.
