ok, here is a thought experiment for you; imagine you are a billion dollar company and your company was about social media. you were trying to attract people from all walks of life, all over the world, to be welcoming, to try to build something from the ground up, something that was accessible and familiar and interesting to all to be a new form of exchange, of reward, to totally transform society. now imagine that to join this enterprise it took 2+ weeks, and maybe, if you were lucky and there weren't the usual screw-ups, you could actually join this entity and then probably be ignored or overlooked anyways.
open your eyes, this is not a dream or a thought experiment, STEEM and Steemit was a $1 billion entity that made it nigh impossible and STILL makes it nigh impossible to join, so bad that even people are offering services CHARGING to become a part of our supposedly revolutionary community.
no wonder there are only a few hundred people circulating here
peace @clumsysilverdad
Doesn't make a lot of sense does it? whichever way, however you look at it. Who is going to spread the word about steem, who is going to sign up, when signing up is so difficult. Surely, the people responsible must know about the problem. Why isn't something being done about it? Is there more to it than meets the eye? Questions, questions and more questions. Who will provide the answers?

I don't know, but when you think about it, and figure how bad the retention is for people that even were able to make it here, the amount of users that have been squandered is mind boggling, and STEEM deserves to be trading at $0.28 basically. it's a human and capital loss !

i like steem and the community of freaks and geeks here, but come on, how can we imagine STEEM a top notch company with this kind of basic malfunctioning.

Steemit has a long way before it can actually become something valuable.

If you want a free account I agree.
If you are willing to Pay $1.29 or 0.00031786 BTC (as of 12-20-2019) its easy, ANONYMOUS and anyone can do it. You can pay with other forms of crypto too.
Personally I think if it has a cost related to it, it will have more value to some.
So being in a distributed mind set and understanding that We the community need to step and take responsibility.
I will delegate 5 steem for 30 days to anyone who sets up a new account and posts a reply with it, to my my post Setup a new steem account in 4 easy steps.

I think the concept that someone should "pay to play" to use social media is to foreign and a huge turn-off. It doesn't align with STEEM's purported purpose.

I agree, pay to play is foreign to the younger generation. Most of them don't understand that...
"There is no such thing as a free lunch"
Someone always has to pay. Facefart is a great example, it's "free" but how?
It only seems free, you don't pay up front with cash, you pay by giving them all that VALUABLE data and they turn around and sell it for Billions. It's WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than $1.50.
That's not my understanding. I thought the idea was to get people to have a stake in the system thus helping reduce spam and encourage proof of brain. i.e. My kid doesn't respect the bike he got for Christmas but the one he bought with his paper route money, is treated like Gold.
Either way people need to understand that they ARE paying for everything they do.
You pay in Calories to walk up the stairs. You got those Calories from that lunch you just bought.
You pay for "free" broadcast Television and Radio by sitting through the adds.
You pay cash for "commercial free" Cable Television.. Oh wait... that's not how that works anymore. But that was how it was sold when I was a kid.

I worked with a multinational and adding a new client in the vendor database took sometimes 2 months due to credit checks etc. So 2 weeks is not a big issue.
