I read the steemitblog post about the proposals earlier and found the comments very interesting as well.To be honest I am glad it is up for discussion as I don't quite know what to make of the whole thing. The house is quiet here and it is my thinking time and I thought I would just raise this tonight to see what others are thinking. Curation is what makes this place tick so for me it is probably the most important element for everyone. If no curation happened we would all be struggling to earn any rewards.I am happy to hand over a larger slice of my post to curators and to see how it would change things.
Gaming the system will always happen as someone will work out a way. That is what people do as they try and beat the system anyway they can.I wasn't here before the bots started and only know what we have now. I am not the smartest with all these linear curves and even though they say a simple example a simpler one further down the line would be appreciated.
I do agree with the comments by some of the users saying that SMT's are what is important right now and getting the place moving forward.I would like to see curation get a better slice of the pie, but it is getting the right balance making it fair for everyone. There are always going to be happy and unhappy users somewhere and that is why it has to be taken slowly and thought through properly from every angle.
I truly have no idea what is the best way forward and whatever happens in the future as long as it is an improvement then I am all for it.In one of the comments there was a thought of having a slider for curation and I think that this could work.As long as the slider started at 25 % which is what it is now and could go up as far as you wanted. The choice would be yours.
I am a great believer in changing things up and have in the past advocated the change to 50/50 curation and a change to the curve but some of the comments on the post bought back many memories.
It really was true that before linear rewards the same 8 odd people took up the majority of the top thirty or forty posts on trending.
The big problem being is that the big accounts, rather than looking or getting people to look for posts to curate chose a small band (themselves) to upvote, this was for two reasons, one) it was the king of circle jerks and two) they gained loads of curation out of it.
Everybody else got fuck all. Quite literally. There were others in a secondary circle who got the odd big vote, myself included. A keep them sweet kind of thing.
It was not a good situation. It is easy to imagine for example the the loudest voices crying out for this change are looking out for everyone or the platform but look at their behaviour. It shows more likely the motivation behind it all.
Such stuff is not normally said aloud. As you know, on this platform and in any situation where money is at stake people do not wish to upset the Apple cart.
Lol, that was a longer reply than I meant

I am always wary of when certain people want change. I agree you need to look for the reasons and benefits first as very rarely is it for the sake of everyone else. I came across a lot whilst I was growing ( circle jerks) and what is scary some of them are witnesses now. My eyes are open and will follow the lead on the ones I trust here and you are one of them.

I agree with you. I am hoping that someone can explain all of this in a much easier way to understand with some strong examples before they just blindly move forward with it. I don't know if I can believe that posts would get more attention just because the curation rewards were higher. It seems like you still need people that genuinely like your content to continuously support you.

You’re right. I recently leased out a majority of my SP, which gives me a very small slice of the rewards of posting. I’m completely at the mercy of others upvoting my work.
On the bright side, since my upvotes are now worth practically nothing, I can slide down my votes to 1% and work on building reputation.
It’s sad to be back at redfish level for rewards, except that it’s also liberating. While my SP is working, I can be social without much regard to “making money “.

Those are some good points. I have found lay that the majority of the rewards on my personal posts come from projects I have delegated to not individual voters.

I'll agree with curation getting more when they figure out how to make it for actual curation aka people who do actually read the posts they are voting on instead automated or bot voting.
Until then it's taking away from the people who put the work into creating the content that automated voters are gaining on.
