WTF happened with the hashrate???

in steem •  8 years ago

I just noticed the #steem #mining queue length has grown to ~140 - that's about 30 more than yesterday, which implies that hashpower increased by a factor of 2^8.

According to https://steemd.com/witnesses, mining slots 99-135 are now taken by "supercomputing" miners. Anyone know who's behind that?

Hey supercomputing and rabbit, ease up and let some other people find a POW!

It's now 88-131... How can you hit so many consecutively???

SKYNET is taking control...

yes, pretty pointless if it stays like this... I took a block earlier today, difficulty then for me worked out at least a block every 22 hours, but currently it's between 283 and 666 hours... really there is no point

I've shut down mining, not worth the extra wear and tear even when using the computer for other things. If you can't make anything with 24 cores then it's no longer worth mining from a high performance normal computing system.

It won't stay like this. The mining algorithm is being tweaked to get rid of the "shortcut" that's being used by that supercomputing guy. Things will get back to normal after the next hardfork.
