https://steemit.com/steemit/@dantheman/estimated-value-of-steemit-com-grows-over-4x-in-18-days
three weeks ago I reported that, according to webofworth.com, steemit.com grew from $5000-$18,000 and just 18 days. I decided to check in again today and saw that we now have a value of $41,000.
What is important is the trend. the actual dollar value is an estimate derived from statistics and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Downvoted not because I don't consider this a useful high quality post or because I disagree with it, but because I don't believe the interests of Steem are served by every platform update or request for feedback from the developers receiving hundreds or thousands of dollars that would otherwise go to other posters.

There a new feature in the 0.8.0 release which addresses your concern: the ability to post without receiving a payout.

Yes I agree that is a good feature for some use cases including this one.

I invested in Steemit because of the value I see in two years, 300 to 600 million a year increase in value.
When I say steemit, I mean the men and the vision behind it. Keep up the good work. Hard work always pays off in folds.

You actually invest in Steem. Not Steemit. Don't confuse it.
Steem is a blockchain. It is decentralized. Steemit is a site managed by Steem Inc.
Steemit possess more than half though. So investing in Steem you indirectly invest in Steemit.

A truly interesting estimate will be in three more weeks. After the July 4th dispersal and joy or disappointment each of us will feel after we receive the fruits of our labors. Will steemit.com's value be double what it is today? Or will it barely have moved?
Personally, I think it will likely be valued at around $150,000 in three weeks, or more than triple growth. I believe people will be pleased with the July 4th and subsequent payouts and news of the success of steemit will drive growth at an accelerated rate.

Google bought youtube early for a huge sum of cash plus shares. I myself am new here and do not understand if steemit is publically or privately owned as to how it can remain such over time. In other words can it be a startup and launched and then sold off ? or is there something that legally binds steemit to remain out in the open for all users? Thank you

Steem is the whole system that is build on a blockchain. It's open source and anybody can use it anyway they want.
Steemit is the company that has designed and launched Steem. Steemit also runs this website (steemit.com) that is the first user interface for the Steem blockchain. In the future there will be other UIs too (stand-alone software, mobile apps, other websites) made by other people.
So yes, Steemit can be sold off. But that doesn't necessarily has any effect on Steem. The blockchain will continue to exists and function, it's not in any fundamental way depending on Steemit. Of course most of the developers work for Steemit, so in a practical way Steem is somewhat dependent on Steemit, at least for now.

Please be aware that Steem the blockchain has a strict license, so it's not totally "free to use".
