Have you paid off a large amount of debt using Steemit?

in steem •  8 years ago

If so, I want to talk to you.

I'm a writer at Yahoo Finance covering digital currency. I've written one story on Steemit (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/steem-steemit-bitcoin-reddit-cryptocurrency-000000501.html) and now I'm exploring another.

If you've paid off a large debt, or your mortgage, or some large lump sum, using money you got solely through Steemit posts, plz shoot me an email. I look forward to hearing your story!

I think I've made around $1 so far :P. There's definitely some success stories out there though. If a person is a decent photographer, writer, and doing interesting things/projects they seem to be making decent money.

Wow! Thanks for all the upvotes everyone :)

Yes, this has happened! I know of several cases.

I paid my tax debts with steemit. You can contact me at [email protected]

I don't think anyone besides the whales were able to get that much out of Steemit so far. A stat on the payouts (total out to the exchanges per user) for the last couple months would be interesting as that way we could see who's gotten paid a couple tens of thousands and could achieve such a goal: pay the mortgage etc.

Hope someone does that soon..

I've paid my cell phone bill... I don't think that's earth shattering news but still pretty awesome!

Interesting, I have a podcast, and I see you have a video on this as well. Would you enjoy being on a pre-recorded 10 minute call sometime soon that I could play for my audiences? guymalone at protonmail.com

Dude this is crazy. Did yall see what just happened? An idea originally about asking for stories of debt payments through cryptocurrencies from volunteers; jumps into this intellectual interaction between tim-johnston and ibringawareness . Where ibringawareness asked for help to make an idea come into a reality. How? He saw his ideas on tim-jonston wall, and liked how similar they were to his thought process and negotiated him a proposition. The free-market is living it up freely under this ecosystem, like it should be. People making connections and volunteering for a specific goal and get rewarded under the blockchain technology. It is really a contract withing a contract....the many wonders of this ecosystem! #inception

Yes! It's definitely a constantly perpetuating cycle, Tesla would've been proud, haha! Interesting analysis you put out there, and spot on I'd say. Neat...

Blockchain technology and Steemit are a beautiful thing indeed!

Sure I'm open to the idea, if I get the time I will shoot you an email if you haven't already found a more interesting story to report on XD.

Steemit IS the story these days, haha. People who know how to use it and what they're doing with it is what I want to be featuring, at least in 5-10 minute clips, for the foreseeable future.

What a great idea for a story! I have not but that is a goal.. I just had my first successful post (merely appx $300 right now) but I'm getting good at this, and have already gone thru the process of connecting my Coinbase and Steemit, and made a small Steem purchase to test the technical waters.
Yes if I earn much more Steem, my hope is to cash out 50% to pay towards debt, and 50% to re-invest in Steem’s long term growth (power up). I am saving your email address in my contacts. Your “story” may be old news by the time it happens for me, haha, even if, but we’ll see. Thanks for posting, it's great to see legitimate media looking into Steem.
Best, Guy

I bought a shiny new Metal Detector ($600) from Amazon using Steem I converted to BTC and then to an Amazon Gift card via the Gyft website.

Oh and I just published "The Secrets Steemit's Whale's Don't Want You To Know!"

With a $17,000 student loan.. I wish haha

Nice. Read it, looked at your list of articles, believe you! If you want to tell the story on my podcast I'd love to share it, to give Steem/Steemit more and more cred. Just a pre-recorded phone call is all that's needed, no live call ins. guymalone at protonmail.com if you'd like to tell the details.
Here's two weeks ago program where Steemit was introduced on my program. https://steemit.com/podcasts/@ibringawareness/area51-fm-reporting-from-roswell-alt-news-podcast-with-guy-malone-has-moved-to-steemit
Note that I am not the Yahoo author btw, if you have something going with him I don't mean to interfere.

after reading your post I have decided to try and see if this is possible you can see my post here https://steemit.com/steemit/@mrgrey/steemit-experiment-can-your-vote-help-me-crush-my-debt-and-alter-my-future

I do believe a few people got out of poverty due to Steemit, I am not sure if debt specifically was paid off. Take for example @infovore, he got out of poverty thanks to Steemit!

I think the "out of poverty" stories are more interesting. Andreas Antanopolous talks a lot about "the other 6 Billion" and how cryptocurrency will help these people in developing nations. That's a redistribution of wealth I can get behind.

It's not redistribution, it's creation of wealth for the poor people. People can lift themselves up if they have the right tools, I think many inspirational stories can be found there. Paying off a debt is kinda boring topic, but going from a hut into a house with swimming pool is definitely powerful and inspirational.

I understand that "redistribution of wealth" is something that "government" does, and I agree with you completely. I was speaking poetically...or euphemistically.

I got 292SD form @kencode for translating his app to Arabic, I spent some on online shopping, whats left is in my Xapo wallet :)

i earned $2 now lol but its not enaugh to pay my debt hehehe im here coz its fun to read post. i learned a lot

I was able to pay a nearly $300 veterinarian bill solely with money I earned from Steemit, after only being on this platform for two weeks. I thought it was pretty cool (I even wrote a post about it). Nothing like paying off a mortgage, though! Although, since I'm under contract to buy a house, that is definitely a Steemit goal. :)

Would love to also hear from anyone who has bought that previously unattainable luxury through a steemit windfall, like a Rolex!, or boat, or that much sought after Harley???

I have not paid off any large debts but steemit did save my butt at the begining of the month when my internet and power were about to be cut and I had zero food in the house for my family and it was from making a simple comment I am hoping to raise about $15 000 though to wipe out my debts.

No. I don't have any debt. But the irony of this post being in trending has made me chuckle. :-)

OK, that sounds like an interesting idea... someone paying off debt with Steem money. Wish I could. I think I may have some interesting ideas you could write about.

I have to wonder if you haven't made more on this post already than you will on your article. Have you?

Well, i have been able to cover my addiction for about 2 weeks.
Yeah, i was buying weed with it :) That was actually great, i was not worried if i will have to smoke anything now :D

I've made $5 because @exitmass was nice to me. But I used it on Steem Power, not paying off debts.

Hardly anyone I think could do such a thing at this point except for a few of the whales (a handful of people at the top). It's way too premature for something like this.

Congratulations @dbr! You have received a personal award!
