When I first heard about Steem it I was very interested, very excited. I saw the potential and what it could become. I watched video after video about Steemit and what certain people were doing and how it was working for them. And it just got me so excited that I couldn't wait to get on. I figured hey its working for them and this is just amazing they are making tons of money and growing a community around them faster then I had seen in anything else by far. And some of them are turning it into a daily living. What I didn't realize was that those who I was watching would be considered whales on this site, and that's not a bad thing at all but my mind saw their numbers and didn't calculate that I wasn't going to be on their level day one. And that's on me.
I did not write this post to complain by any means. I wrote to for the little guys that may be losing hope or are falling out of interest because it isn't making tons of money as quickly as they expected it.
Because it isn't that from what I have seen and now understand a little better, the more your on it the more you learn about it. But it is a slow, grinding pleasure process. It is like a steam engine that slowly gains power over time until it gains so much momentum that it can not be stopped. You need to build your base around you of like minded people with similar interest. Find post you like and comment with well thought out comments. Make great post there people get value out of, and value can be anything from just the short comic for a laugh, or a super log post about something you love and everything in between. And over time grow your Steem Power. These things take time, work if you will. It does not come over night.
The minnows and there are a bunch of us. Just post to post. Post things you love, post things you find interesting. Make this page your own reflect of you and don't worry about the votes or the values behind those votes. Because if that's why you are here you will lose interest rather fast. You can put what you feel is a lot of time and effort into a post only to see it make little to nothing after the 7 days is up. Many can't see that day in and day out as a minnow if that is why they are here and not simply because they enjoy being here.
I write this from my own self reflection on this site. I got burnt out fast because I wanted to make a post every day whether it meant something to me or not just to make a post. Then quickly realized that I was the minnow and the money simply was not a thing. I had a little money in sure not enough to make the impact that I wanted or visualized in my head though. And now I realize that it isn't even about that at all; but about creating a amazing community around you full a great things. The money is simply the bonus. I have found that posting not simply to post thinking about that value but posting about things I like or that interest me make this a much more fulfilling space and just a great place to be, not to mention come to paper much more naturally anyway.
I for one and kinda happy to see the price of Steem falling at the moment. I am buying it all the way down. I have much renewed faith in Steemit and the potential is staggering. All it takes is a big upvote from a whale once in a blue moon to keep the interest and the faith for the minnows in Steemit live. Thanks @blocktrades for the upvote that made me rethink some things about Steemit. I have a new view and great things around just around the corner. Day 1 starting this journey I made a goal on paper of 1k Steem Power by the end of the year. Today I still hold to that goal and I will get there.
Now I am here for the ride because its just fun. Not thinking about it as a investment so much as just a really good site that I like to send some time on. And don't get me started about DTube because that will probably be its on post here shortly. But DTube is amazing and going to be a game changer for Steem. The more things like that they add to the Steem platform the better for Steem.
So excited for the future. Crypto really is the future and freedom for so many are right around the corner. Take advantage. Thanks for reading.
You are so right, the handwork is very real and frustrating in the beginning for minnows but i think consistency is the key

Like anything you have to do it because its enjoyable not because of money. I love photography and nature and hell if i where doing it for the money I would be the definition of "starving artist"
I love it here at steemit and quite honestly most of my steem came from upvoting and commenting mastering those two can net you some good steem along with you posts :)
