Dear Fulltime Steemian, How are You Fairing?

in steem •  5 years ago

I have to say, it's been a touch couple of months hasn't it?

I'm not quite sure there are any more full-time steemians left of the platform but just incase there is, how are you holding on? How are you managing?

This morning I read a very interesting piece by @anomadsoul on Fulltime Steeming. It made a lot of sense and it's something I have been thinking about for sometime and working towards myself.

Being a full-time Steemian is no longer viable and it takes a lot of time and effort to make content that can amount to anything. Especially give the changes in the rewards system. With that in mind, I'd say the dream to be a full-time Steemian for many has come to an end, well, at least for me.

If you Haven't read the piece by Eric, I highly encourage you to...

Time to work towards something else and use Steem for other purposes other than making a living off. He Said. And I completely agree with this sentiment. Unfortunately working towards something else will cost me nearly every Steem I've earned on this platform, but hopefully I will be able to buy back much more than I have spent so far.

Such a gamble!

But I am hopeful I will be able to do that in time. @phoneinf thinks we might see $0.03 STEEM. Oh my lord, I am somewhat wishing for that so I can accumulate as much as I have dreamt of and hoping that I will be strategically placed for when that happens :)

All in all, Full-time Steeming is a thing of the past and it's time we stopped Advertising Steem as an income generating Social Media Platform. We need to sell the fun side of Steem, money makes everything so dull with all the tag of wars, unnecessary flagging/downvotes etc and it's taking the life out of STEEM by the day.

So I ask, If money was not a potent part of the STEEM Ecosystem, how would you sell the platform? Or rather, would you even be here TODAY?

I think I would still be here. I kind of like steem block chain social side. The money side, other than how equates to my vote/reward to others is a nice bonus, but even after two years and a few months I have yet to bother learning how to make a fiat deposit or withdrawal. So I am not sure I have been here for the money to begin with.

All my other tries at Social Media places over the course of the last 15 years were, not that great. A couple weeks at the most, and then I found them to be rather annoying. Kind of like the, no doubt, 1,000+ notifications waiting for me next time I visit a discord channel for one thing or another. It's annoying, I spend far to much time having to push buttons to get to the new stuff, or to the stuff I am interested in on discord. At first it was kind of nice to get messages from people that you knew, but then you get crap messages from people you don't or all shout-outs just because you visited a room at one time or another.

So in conclusion, yeah, I think I would still be on steem block chain in the social posting areas. I kind of like show and tell. Today, I took a tour of a wax museum in Spain, it was a well done post with lots of pictures to show the works in the museum. Like Kenya, I am unlikely to visit Spain in this life , so I visit these far off places through the camera lenses of real people, not some travel brochure only showing what the hotel industry or the government want shown about their country.

Hahah. Well, I like maistream SM actually, it's a lot more fun than Steem in my own opinion. People are just themselves. However, glad you like being on here. I like a little bit of both worlds.

That's the power of the internet, we can virtually travel through others. I love it.

Oh yes that's true, I've only been here on steemit for a month now but have definitely noticed how the travel blogs are so real and focusses on showing everyday encounters and not idyllic and fake things. Great point.

Thank you for your reply, I see that you are new here, I have followed you, and will try to get around to more of your post. It is a tough haul to get going on steem block chain. Right now with your level of Steem Power, use your votes where they will do some good and give a little bit of reward to you so you can increase your Steem Power. Vote on post, not comments, unless those comments already have a lot of votes.

For social interaction visit some of the social tags. #wednesdaywalk is a great place to start. A few of your post I looked at show that you are a social type person, and most of the people participating in the #wednesdaywalk tag are also. You will be very tempted to vote on a lot of comments, best to just vote on the post itself, also leave some comments on the post, like you did here when the post/comment rings true to you.

If you like taking pictures of birds or chasing after our #featheredfriends, that is also a very nice and social group of people.

Hi, this is my secondary account,(@bashadow), I have delegated 25 SP to your account. It should help to where you do not run out of Resource Credits as quickly. To build your account try to make a post a day, (I know I don't), consistency will pay-off. Comments cost almost the same Resource Credits as a full post. keep your comments real, and people will eventually connect with you. You already found @elsiekjay, and she is a good one to follow. There are a lot of good people on Steem Block Chain, but also some down vote happy clowns and trolls, so try not to let them get to you to much. Enjoy and have a nice holiday season. I'm not sure how long I will leave the delegation, I will try and leave it for awhile though so you can build your account.

I came here in March, so far too late to consider being full-time ... Steem has been doing nothing but falling. HOWEVER, this has been a good a place to develop writing and an audience for the same, and that adapts nicely to other pursuits -- so, I can see a path to full-time income that begins here. Steep path. Not for everyone. But, possible... no way it would be from Steem alone at this point or any point in the near future, but, possible ... in the meantime, Steemit is far superior to Facebook in terms of interaction and material and general lack of nonsense, so, even though the price continues to decline, I intend to stay and climb that steep path ...

Probably that dream can become a reality in future, but currently I agree it doesn't look that promising. But never say never right? In the meantime, Keep on Steeming :)

I've never been a full time steemian but over the past couple of years i have managed to accumulate a nice amount of steem just from staying active. I haven't sold any of it and don't intent to unless the price really rockets and i could make a wage from my weekly earnings but i don't expect that in the next couple of years. We are still in the building stage for the system so i'm looking at 2025 for it's real potential.

I just enjoy my time on the platform compared to wasting it on facebook or youtube.

Hey @niallon11 I'm commenting on your last statement about enjoying your time here rather than FB or other SM. Totally agree, even though I've only been here for a month it's already much better than the more mainstream platforms just becuase of threads like this. I just feel more at home here. Not to bust the other places but I guess to each their own. It's quite sad for me to read about the 'fall' of steemit as you guys and girls are explaining. So reading about your optimism for the future of this platforms was quite nice. Please tell me where can I read nore about this good future of the platform that you are talking about? Or maybe if you don't mind can you share why and how it is that you see the near future being bright for steemit?

The first part is that steemit is only one app on the #steem blockchain so while there are less people blogging on the site than last year, apps like @splinterlands are doing very well. New sites have opened up on the chain like @travelfeed, @threespeak and @steemleo that have really improved on the first generation of apps that were created with more in the works.

We have some great developers working on projects and a hardcore community that have kept going even with the markets being in red for the past 2 years. A lot of the people who left only did so because crypto markets dropped and when they turn around you can bet a lot of them will flood back in. Some left due to the changes over the past year but the userbase here is still tiny and everything is in development.

It will be the next wave of users that will make or break the whole system and the price of STEEM. That will be the stage where new users don't even know they are operating on a blockchain and accept tokens as an everyday norm. They will join through various apps and might never see the mechanisms that we can see being built in real time. That is still a few years off but a lot of people have very short term vision and expect everything perfect straight away even though it is still being built.

What i can recommend is to find an app or community that you like. Have fun using it and don't worry about crypto or markets. Just keep powering up and growing for the future. There are changes coming up to introduce communities and STEEM tokens for existing apps that will make it easier to bring in large groups of people together and to organize groups and content which have been big issues in the past. I see this as being a good starting point for everything else that is coming down the line. If you have any questions feel free to ask me or joining @steemterminal is a great place for new users on discord.

I was told just yesterday that people like me that have powered down 500 steem in over a year are the reason that the price is where it is and steem is ranked in the 80s currently..

My point is that to many, even exchanging steem is a sin and definitely won't get you in the club..One can only imagine the blame placed on a full time steemians shoulders.. Seems the only righteous path here is to buy your influence and then tell everyone else they're losers for not having tens of thousands of SP.. The arrogance of the first worlders that dominate this place sickens me and I honestly hope they all lose their ass holding a fat bag of 3 cent steem on a platform destroyed by assholes and idiots!

I find it absurd that people want people to earn crypto here and not spend it. Selling Steem is not the issue, if we can't sell why even bother being here? aaargh
