Some wonder what this Netcoins is. I haven't heard of it either before this contest.
Let's endulge the idea that Netcoins is nothing, although even if we only think that you would be able to buy STEEM directly with fiat would be enough to understand it isn't.
Netcoins' contest, on the other hand, was not nothing. It should have been a great proof-of-community.
Yep, it turned out to be a mess, and a contest of who cheats better, regardless if we win or not in the end after the recount. That's a shame.
However, it is still somewhat relevant as our community should have aced this contest, no matter the cheating and possibly coalitions against us (for example, Verge voting for INS after they lost their chance to win).
The good parts:
- we proved that, after some inertia, we were able to slowly coagulate behind this goal; that gives some hope to future community-wide endeavors.
- I think we will probably get listed on Netcoins, first place or not (although first place is most likely deserved). Otherwise, it would be a shame of the engagement of those who participated.
- we question everything; there is no unanimity; some never supported this action, but at least I haven't seen anyone trying to put down those who did (apart for some ironies here and there)
The bad parts:
- we lack, as far as I know, an effective method to propagate a time-sensitive message blockchain-wise, or at least to the leaders of the communities/influencers, in different languages etc. Steemit banner can be a relatively effective message for those who use Steemit, but it was argued, probably for good reasons, that it should be kept for messages related to the blockchain. I've seen late last night the @introduce.bot account being used to incentivize voting, by commenting on new posts. This may indeed be effective (I appreciated it), but some may consider it as spam.
- the vote count shows a lower participation than I would've expected from the Steem community
- many people formed a sort of vote aversion or indifference from real life; this is probably transferred to some extent online, and us, as a social media environment probably suffer from this voluntary lack of participation too.
What Next?
Maybe we can reflect on the bad points so we can see what we can improve for the future.
Next, I think STEEM needs to be listed to Netcoins.
In parallel to that, we should get back to our regular routine, it's over, one way or another.
I agree, Adrian. There should be an instrument for information to the whole Steemit community.
Luckily, I got the voting information from the very active D-A-CH Community and did my votes several days.

There are several, but none of them perfect from the existent ones, and none of them discussed in advance to see what gathers more support and to have an already established strategy to handle a situation. It is a good idea to discuss potential solutions to problems we discover not when a solution is urgently needed, but when it's not needed and most people think it's not a priority.
