How to get more bang for your SBD buck - DON'T select the power up 100% when you post

in steem •  8 years ago  (edited)

Lets do our part to keep the price of STEEM rising while earning additional rewards in the process.

I've been taking a browse down trending, new and hot and still notice way to many of these.

The indicators that a post is 100% powered up.

That was a good strategy when the price of STEEM was declining but it is a very poor option to choose right now and someone who currently uses it deprives themselves of the opportunity to benefit themselves and the ecosystem as a whole.

Here is a ping to some of the members currently with posts on trending that are using this option.
@rok-sivante @trafalgar @knozaki2015 @steemvoter @stan @stellabelle @teamsteem @samupaha @kevinwong @gringalicious @surfermarly @maa @kaylinart @marketwizards @katdvine @elyaque @craig-grant @modprobe

We love your commitment to STEEM demonstrated by doing 100% power up posts, but you can benefit the ecosystem more by not doing them.

There are two reasons for this, the price of STEEM is rising but more importantly a STEEM Dollar is worth more than $1.

STEEM Dollar is fluctuating at roughly one and a half times its peg value. So right now after our post pays out we will be able to get a 50% bonus on the SBD portion of our author rewards. That's 25% bonus on our author payout for doing virtually nothing.

That's what is great about SBD right now

...and the pegging is not likely to be aggressively defended, on the upside, in the near future, therefore SBD is likely to trade well above its backed value of $1 for some time into future.

So by not doing our 100% powered up post we get our 25 % bonus payout simply by selling them, that's also when we benefit everybody else.

SBD are created when our post pays out, that way our post helps to create more SBD and increase the overall supply of SBD and its market capitalization.

High SBD levels are only a problem when the price of STEEM is very low. In the past no new SBD was being printed as a result and everyone was encouraged to burn SBD by doing SBD to STEEM conversions.

Conversions reverse the SBD creation process.

Times have changed and the market speculators appear to love SBD.

We all help the ecosystem by creating SBD with our posts right now, but just as importantly, selling SBD creates BUYING pressure for STEEM.

Selling SBD can actually raise the price of STEEM.

This is the real positive about SBD (in a climbing market or when SBD is trading above $1). It's also the downside when prices are declining, it accentuates things.

Right now SBD is accentuating in the right direction and we should leverage it as much as possible.

We can sell our SBD for STEEM most simply on the Internal Market and then power it up along with our 50% bonus.

Getting more bang for our SBD buck

The prices on the internal market fluctuate with what's going on on the external market and barring very sharp rises and falls we are likely to get close to the equivalent, as if we had moved the SBD to an external market like bittrex or poloniex, bought bitcoin for SBD and then bought STEEM with BTC.

Selling SBD and Buying STEEM either on the internal of external markets creates buying pressure because we are taking STEEM out of willing sellers hands and powering it up. The more we buy, the less sellers have to sell and we end up doing our part to increase the price of STEEM on the markets.

An increased STEEM price benefits everyone.

The reward pool fluctuates in Dollar terms based on the market capitalization of STEEM.

Very simply, the higher the price of STEEM the more rewards in dollar terms there are to go around and the more everybody's posts will earn.

In these market conditions SBD creation creates a virtuous circle.

Lets get or best bang for our SBD buck, both for ourselves and for the entire ecosystem.

Help educate others by reminding them of missed opportunities.

Edit: also DON'T use the convert to steem option, check out this excellent post on that here

Good post!

The important part for people to remember is that if you want more SP (and if you chose 100% SP, presumably you do), then once you get your payout you should take that SBD, trade it for STEEM and then power it up. You will get (at current market prices) about 25% more SP this way compared to choosing "100% SP".

If instead, you keep the SBD without trading it for STEEM, you will regret this if the price of STEEM continues to rise. The idea here isn't to discourage people from powering up, it is suggest a better way to power up.

Of course no one can be sure what the price of STEEM will do in the future. Any decisions about payouts or trading should made with awareness of both risks and rewards.

a 'eureka' moment but still thanks @gavet

Great, smooth always says it best

less 'techie' u mean? lols

Light bulb time

yeah :) steem on!

:)

a little something extra to keep in mind if converting SBD to STEEM...

Link: DON'T "CONVERT" SBD to STEEM, "BUY IT" ON THE STEEMIT MARKET!

Great, didn't want my post to be too long, glad you did this, so I put this link into the main post as well...

awesome, thanks! hate to see people throwing away their hard-earned "quan"! lol

Rod Tidwell: Yeah, man, it means love, respect, community… and the dollars too. The package. The quan.

Here's another one that may also be of interest: Seizing Trading Opportunities through Market Panics and Capitulation

what is the difference? And why do they make you wait 3 and ahalf days if you can just buy it on the new market?

Amen!

Oops! Sorry Gavvet was testing a script and it flagged you... lol. Run away bots. Removing flag now, my appologies. :P

NP, yours won't be the first.

I did buy steem from my SBD two days ago with a good rate - now price mooning i just did again (when there was a little dip) with my SBD, hope this was a good decision :-)

not everyone wants to trade. Some like to play with the price. Some stack Steem when the price is low and power dow when the price is high.

But you can stack now at double the rate since SBD is running a two dollars now at times

Oh!! I have to admit I never quite look that much at SBD. Interesting to know, indeed.

This is exactly what im doing right now ! Im 50/50 and buying steem with any SD i get , im currently in my 4th week of power down and by Friday i should have another weeks of steem to add to my allready 1,000 Steem "waiting "as I may need to cash out some more ! It was my first time cashing out last week , which was a very daunting task and im hopeing my next time will be a bit easier ! Great post , thanks for all the info !! This is awesome times on steemit !!👍👍👍

Pity you need cash now with the way the price of STEEM is climbing...

I know ! I will try to hold on to it in steem for as long as i can !! 👍👍👍

daunting?

Haha ! Now thats daunting and haunting !! Lol!😱😱😱

I've switched from 100% to 50/50 and done well by selling SBD. I will be keeping some for possible buying of goods. At least if people go for 100% SP it keeps that Steem out of the market, but it may not have a massive effect. Some people may be looking to use some of their earnings to buy into other coins. Some are climbing even faster than Steem, so there are opportunities.

Good, glad you are getting the benefit of the raised SBD Price.

SBD also keeps STEEM out of the market, and when sold for STEEM to power up(as is the intent with 100% power up posts) it not only keeps STEEM out of the market but takes STEEM out of the market.

I tend to sell SBD and buy things that can help me with content creation when the price is higher. Its really a win/win because I am doing something that helps me and the community at the at the same time.

Great, this ecosystem has so many great aspects to it

Thank you my friend @gavvet this is good info. I have a question that is running my brain bothering me. Got to ask. I want to know when we do a post with 100% power up instead of 50/50 don't we lose steem due to the price, in another words the steem is accumulated according to the amount generate for the post, correct? But when we do 50/50 we can still collect interest on steem dollar. Is my way of understanding right or wrong?

whether 50/50 or 100% it is the same, it's just that you can sell SBD and get more steem because the market is paying more for SBD at the moment

I got you. Thank you kindly.

Thanks for posting this! I had not considered that this is the as currently, so this is nice information to know :) 25 % increased reward can actually add up to be a pretty decent sum of money!

Precisely.

I had not considered this. After a 5 minute read through, I see your point. Next post, I'll not choose 100% steempower. I'd enjoy it if you wrote more on this subject in the near future as the prices are changing. I'm a food blogger, not a steem strategist, so anything along these lines is very helpful. On that note, after HF18, are there now better strategies for curating?

Glad I could help out. HF 18 curation strategies? vote for what you like...

after the rise I actually stopped my 100% powerup post.
I came to the same conclusion yesterday. but great to read your post which clarifies it

Great

A beautiful post that makes me much more understanding about Steem, keep it this way so that the less understood people out there can understand and know what Steemit is. Thank you info @gavvet

Okay, that makes sense to me... I shall change my settings, sell the SBD, purchase Steem and power up that way

Why is this not tagged with steemit? oO

I searched for the article to link it and I thought steemit was the most likely tag I would find it in...

oops...

always an informative post

Thanks

Thanks for the information gavvet. Didn't thought about the benefits of selling SBD in favour for Steem. There are many hidden opportunity to benefit from SBD. Will check them out.

Cheers!

This was figured out when STEEM was dropping rapidly, that some of it was due to Authors selling SBD, so it cuts both ways depending on the trend.... as said SBD has an amplifying effect both ways.

ok

Nicely put. thanks

Glad to be of assistance

Thank you for posting @gavvet.

Appreciate the explanation and details for the 50/50% payout.

Information and flexibility are key especially in cryptocurrencies sphere. Steemians were looking forward to hearing from you today.

All the best to you.

Thanks

Nice! I had been selling all my SBD for Steem~

Great, so its you pumping up the price then?

Oh Yeah, obviously. I know some friends who just were buying Steem. They arent even concerned with sining up after I shared what #steemit is!!

Great

Thanks for the very informative post. Please keep us informed as there are a lot of new people on the platform.

sure thing

Excellent analysis @gavvet you win my upvote and my follow.

Thanks

Very interesting @gavvet! I will start using 50/50 on the rewards. Had always done 100%. Its good to be informed :)

great!

This is a perfect expalanation! You broke this down so anyone can understand it. After reading it I immediately went to the internal market and traded and powered up! Thanks!

Great

Thanks for the tips!

Sure thing

Great information, saved to favorites

Glad you liked it

Thanks for the post. I am still learning.

We all are...

Excellent work dear friend @gavvet thank you very much for all these tips, just have a saving power I will adopt and support this process

cool

Good thinking, there are a lot of considerations and implications ive yet to even think about. Tnx great post.

Glad you enjoyed it

Thank you for pinging me on this @gavvet. I really appreciate it. I hadn't thought about it and I would have made the same error with my next post.

Great

Thanks! Didn't even think about that.

This is always something to keep in mind when STEEM and SBD are climbing

Thanks for the advice. I plan to do that very thing.
All future rewards will be at default.
In two weeks I intend take a profit,
from SteemDollars only.

SBD is turning out to be a nice little money spinner

right you are, i notice that it's in the green while steem (and almost everything else) has gone red.

I've used blocktrades to convert SBD to Bitcoin when I've made a withdrawal. I want to power up all my earnings now so I am choosing the "Convert to Steem" option. Is this the best way to go about it, or is there a better way. Also, is it better to keep some Steem and some Steem Power, or should I power up everything?

"Convert to Steem" is unfortunately the worst way to do it right now, you still miss out on the higher value on the markets. Best to sell directly for steem on the internal market, but first check that the internal market is giving a good price in line with the value of steem externally.

Thank you @gavvet I appreciate the advice.

As a new member I really appreciate these insights.

It's a pleasure

:)

You talk about internal or external market - but how do you transfer SBD to an exchange? I don't see an option, it's accounts only. I always thought it was internal only, but since Polo has SBD listed there has to be a way...

go to your polo wallet, get the memo code there and then use poloniex as the account and the memo they give you... and its done

So i have been doing the right thing without knowing Why? Must let My Wife know!

Surprise her...

This is really helpful information....I didn't think about it but you are right. It's better for steem and steemians if we create more SBD and sell it for steem at the moment!

Exactly

Great analysis.

glad you like it.

Good points and good post. You can actually get more that 25% increase on on your post by selling steam backed Dollars on exchange with a little care.

Its been closer to two dollars lately, so perhaps even 50%

very good information. everyone can understand easily. thank you

Glad it helped

I apologize for this comment I take it back, i was reading this post and it convinced me https://steemit.com/steemit/@berniesanders/gavvet-master-of-the-steemit-circlejerk i am sorry i let my emotions get the best of me! i see now u are just writing quality content! I looked at your posts and just thought wow his is just alot of cool stuff, lots of data about crypto growth, etc

You have been misled, I have nothing to do with curie... the "facts" you have been given are incorrect... I suggest you speak to curie themselves to find out what limited involvement I had with them a long time ago.

please accept my apology and i unflagged the post!

Great info, something to take note of for a new user like me

Thanks for this - I just got here not to long ago... and have been pondering what to do about that check box as this is still all greek to me.

Thanks for the great post! Very helpful for total beginners like me that have no clue what they are doing. Looking forward for more great tips from you!

Good advice gavvet
I knew I could make a bit more going for the 50/50 payout but I thought I was doing everyone a favor by powering up 100% all this time

When SBD is low and steem price is in a long decline that would be true, but with things on the up... this is how we help the ecosystem the most... If we head into a long decline again(which I doubt) then 100% powerup and SBD to steem conversions is the best for the ecosystem

Thank you for the excellent advice

Thanks for this great post! I wish there was a book mark option here.

Very good analysis gavvet. I was also powering up 100% but now I am reconsidering following your post. Keep it up.

Excellent!

I'm hoping if I post this here, someone can help explain if I'm following a good or bad strategy:
