I personally feel that it takes away from perhaps a really good comment from a user who can't afford large personal upvotes that's all. Not a lot of people will scroll the entire comment section and read everything where the gem comment of this entire article may live.

So you're saying it's good for the platform to upvote your own comments that you make on other peoples posts because you invested in Steem?
Sounds to me like you need to read a little bit more into what you've invested in then my friend. Your invest won't be worth very much if everyone upvote every comment they made.

It just isn't realistic to expect it of most folk.
I don't, and you probably don't, and a lot of folks don't either. Our principles aren't the only answers people have gotten to their own quests for meaning, and in this sense, I must agree with @delusionalmadman.

You're right I did say curation rewards for new users could be 50/50 and that would scale down as the authors following went up. This would have the opposite effect to what @blocktrades is proposing though.
I was actually referring you to the comment by @sigmajin which explains that the system I was suggesting is already in place during the 30 minute curation donation window. In my opinion that window is not big enough and reducing it we would increase the incentive to just vote the same authors all the time instead of seaking out hidden gems (such as the comments you directed me to)
