STEEM Total Supply of token is 250 million ???

in steem •  8 years ago  (edited)

A few friends asked me if Steem has a limited supply in amount of tokens like bitcoin. I did my research and got stunned:

250 million is the total supply of steem tokens??

And as you can see in the chart above only around 16 million, which is 7% is left over.

So what will the Steem Price do?

I can make this answer really short. Fasten your seatbelts this thing will be really really huge.

Have a great weekends steemians.

No! Steem does not have a capped limited supply of tokens. I'm guessing that the number that you saw was someone rounding up on the current number.

He is NOT correct.

https://coinmarketcap.com/ clearly shows that the circulating supply is 233,942,227 STEEM.

  • yeah you are right - @hw-enthusiast -- keep in mind liquid supply is much lower and closer to the number you gave.

Circulating supply is different. But actual liquid coin is much lower.

I added some question marks in the post to ensure that this topic is in clarification. Don't wanted or want to confuse the community.

@mark-waser / Exactly what I was thinking about - And after reading some more websites I think there is no limited supply in steem.

Now I am confused... :-)

circulating supply 16M can't be correct in my opinion..

I misread that sorry about that. Here is a formula to calculate liquid STEEM supply

FORMULA TO CALCULATE LIQUID STEEM:

Go to steemd.com

Look at the values for : current_supply, total_reward_fund_steem and total_vesting_fund_steem

FORMULA: current_supply - total_reward_fund_steem - total_vesting_fund_steem = liquid steems

Calculate percentage supply available: liquid steems / current_supply * 100 = liquid steems %

Really ? Did I got this wrong?

Circulating Supply is what is out there . . . . in circulation. ;-)

Total supply is, I believe the total that has ever been issued. The difference is the amount that has been destroyed for promotion, etc.

Can Steem be destroyed ? I will go deeper into that topic.

Yes. When a post is promoted, the steem is permanently destroyed.

Oh this is not Max Supply.. What does total supply means vs circulating supply?

Very interesting stuff.

As dantheman answered here, "Estimated supply will grow to 5B in about 1 year and then get split back to 500M."
