Can Steemit be used as a comment plugin?

in steem •  8 years ago

I have a Disqus account for commenting on various websites. While browsing their main site, I began to wonder whether Steemit could be adapted to serve as a competitor. It could offer a number of advantages. In no particular order:

  1. Instead of using advertising for funding, it would support the Steem network organically at no cost to anyone. It could even provide an alternative funding model for websites in place of (or in addition to) ad revenue and affiliate marketing programs.
  2. Users would be encouraged to participate in discussions through the Steem cryptocurrency earning incentives.
  3. The Steem blockchain maintains comment records even if the original site eventually goes down.
  4. Comment visibility can be automatically flagged for moderator approval based on steem power as a potential spam prevention measure.
  5. It could provide wider visibility for Steemit, adding value to the system.

Obstacles would include the market share currently held by Disqus and similar services in a potentially overcrowded market, and the lack of public familiarity with blockchain technology in general, not to mention the peculiarities of Steem itself. Additionally, since I am not a programmer, I don't know what obstacles there could be to designing such a program and integrating it into websites.

Yes this is something we want to do.

This I think is a very powerful idea and I am very excited to see how this an be further developed.

Glad to hear it! Seems like this would be one of the easier things to build out, no? At the very least I would hope crypto news sites would adopt it immediately.

How far down on your ToDo list is this idea?

This has been suggested in the past, not sure who did. But I am pretty much there are some people looking into developing something along these lines. Thanks for your feedback!

Cool idea. Upvoted.

78 upvotes. 3 views. 2 comments. Regardless of the math, your upvote counts for a lot in my books.

I would create a user in steemit and then using the associated webpage in steemit.com into an iframe...

hmmm good idea.

Don't forget guys i have video tutorials where you can learn how to build responsive websites and soon i will be touching on the Laravel project

Great idea!! Adding a comment here because I would love to use this once it is available. Please let me know when this happens.

I think it will be up to an outside developer to make a plugin that links Steemit and websites rather than a native Steemit function. I am not a programmer myself, so someone else will need to make it happen.

This is actually a really good idea. Hope that someone is up for the job.
