steem ad revenue model

If Steemit had a framework on which advertisers can pay to co-locate their ads next to trending content in posts, post and/or content owners can get paid from advertisers as well. Any thoughts?

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

I would abandom steem. I love the fact that only valuable content shows up on the top, and I hope it stays that way.
Advertisers should buy influence. They can buy steem, lock it up and use their voting power to upvote their own content. That way the people suffering from the ads will benefit financially. Advertisers can also try to pay influencers for upvoting. It will cost much to get visibility, but maybe it will be worth it, and the ecosystem won't suffocate from ads.

Yeah I can understand the frustration with ads. Seems like today companies are getting a bit desperate trying to monetize with ads, but I think it's more a struggle with web properties to survive in the Internet where the trend is toward perfect competition and no profit. Yahoo is one example. Even Drudge I recently noticed obtrusive video ads. There is also a trend with ad-blocking software so monetization becomes more difficult. However I think ads are going to be a natural part of the ecosystem. It can be argued ad revenue sustains the Internet otherwise Google/Facebook/Twitter would have no revenue model... most news/media sites wouldn't exist. I agree it would be better for companies/advertisers to buy influence. I don't mind as much about standard Google/reddit banner ads as much as the obtrusive video ads. Also I think you can censor ads on the frontend so the STEEM blockchain can have some frontends that allow ads and some that don't.

I thought about the ad model as well, but in my opinion it's better to have a separate blockchain that is dedicated to ads, and steem and ad-blockchain is integrated at frontend level. Just my 2 cents.

No ads please.

Here's Backfeed Magazines' advertising model taken from the FAQ:

Tokens signify the value you’ve contributed to the BACKFEED magazine in form of articles, ratings, comments and shares. They represent the stake you hold in the collective editing process of our crowd-sourced magazine. Since this is the alpha version of the BACKFEED Magazine, at the moment, they serve as a temporary placeholder for future crypto-tokens, which will be issued with later versions of the Magazine.

The final cryptographic Magazine Tokens will be used to temporarily promote content to higher positions on the Front Page, or alternatively – to block such promoted content in order to see only community curated articles. Anyways, Magazine Tokens will be tradable like any other cryptocurrency, so even if you’re not interested in promoting or blocking promoted content, you’ll still be able to sell them to someone who is – ensuring that you’ll be able to access their monetary value.

In addition to that, Magazine Tokens will be redeemable against Backfeed Tokens, which Backfeed will issue during its crowdfunding campaign, later this year. The Backfeed Tokens themselves will be redeemable against Ether, Ethereum‘s crypto fuel. So basically, Magazine Tokens will be indirectly backed by Ether.

I think is a good idea, where you can block ads by simply owning or using the tokens. That would give value to the tokens. However it would still reduce steems value of to bypassers by exposing them to spam/ads, which is bad for any network-effect.

The creators of Steem have an advertising network - https://btsr.io/ I wouldn't be surprised to see if used on Steem at some point in some capacity
