Penny Steem is nigh!!steemCreated with Sketch.

I remember back in the early days of Steemit, where the Steem was pretty low and was just slowly dropping and dropping in an endless, depressing descent, that I read a comment saying something like this (paraphrasing):

Soon we will just have to write for each other and the steem will just be a symbolic upvote. But I'll stay even for that!

I was just in my early days dealing with crypto currencies and didn't pay too much attention to these early adopters and their sense of loss (they were here 6-8 month before me and had already experienced a crazy, euphoric bull market and then the depressing downfall afterwards).

Now I have been here for a long time and seen ups and downs. The whole crypto market lies in pre death spasms and after the manic and unhealthy rise that ended in December 2017 we are still in the depressive fase. Here on Steemit I hear of Penny Steem, of Whale dump, of investors this and investors that. The auction bidbot Booster is powering down and so is its owner Fyrstikken. (I know because the Booster wallet is where I find spammers, plagiarists and abusers to downvote).

And I ask myself: is this the end then?

To me the Steem project works better now than it did for a long time. I know the price is low, but at least the social media part seems to have recovered back to some of the logic that was envisioned back its original concept: that hard work blogging should be what decides the reward. It is far from perfect, but it is not the abusive exploitation hell it was before the hardfork where large stakeholder just milked the reward and ignored the hard work the rest of us made.

Take a look at this post. Some of those old incoherent arguments is not working any more.

So let those whales dump their stake. We just have to buy what the immoral whales sell and create the middle class Steem so badly needs. If all the talented creators here on Steemit just powered up we just might make this place work and if not... I will keep posting my stuff with Steem as the symbolic upvote, just because I like the community.

Bring on Penny Steem!

I saw another #OldSteem beneficiary complaining he is getting downvoted now. He has made serious money from it and still could through curation, but he says he will power down. A lot of his supporters have also seen their fortunes turn around. I do not want to see good people driven away from Steem. I only downvote where I think rewards are not fairly earned and it will only take a few cents off.

We need a new wave of users who are interested in creating something great rather than just earning. The bigger rewards will come later. Those who feel they deserve a bigger slice now harm the platform. Seriously, if you have several hundred thousand Steem then stop self-voting and give those votes to some of the small accounts who make cents. Those who carry on like this will not get my votes anyway. I do not care if I make less from curation because of it. This is partly why I keep my votes mainly manual.

Yes, when you have been used to things going your way it is hard when they go against you. I find it a bit hard to follow some of their arguments and I do not see the Good old times as in any way good for our collective investment.

I am trying to find time commenting and curating besides all the other things I do. I really have gotten the steemit spirit back.

I'm here since January 2017 and I saw ups and downs in time, but I'm here now like I was here before. I think this is not the end, but just a different "re-start". I'm old enough to know that everything need to change a bit in time to work better. I like to wrote my contents , to read contents from others and sure, even if the value of the steem is down, it's always more than I can earn on other social media, right? Thanks my earnings I can buy stuff for my work or to pay a part of my bills, that's not bad. ^_^

To me it also an experiment to see if there can be a business model for artists on the internet that goes around the usual channels. I power up because it seems to be needed that the people making quality blogging or art like the two of us do, invest in the platform. At least for a while.

Thanks for the comment!

You get ready, use this one, too, eh?

Rule by force is the disease, who and how are symptoms.

Hehe, nothing much to add :) That Steem could end up throwing trash in the heads of hard working bloggers arguing that ponzi-investors was more important shows how illogical some of the founders were thinking.

No business IQ, at all.
We tried to tell them, but they preferred the folks that bought their friends.
Smdh.

As much as I would like to see it, I don't think penny Steem is going to happen - even with the large account dumpers. I am here regardless, posting for Steem, not pennies and one day I hope the difference will matter :)

No, it might never go that low. Lately it has been reasonably stable actually. I am also here to carry out my experiment with creative commons art and people here have supported me with more than steem, so the price is not a thing I concerned with on any larger scale.

Yeah, I don't think it will hit single figures unless BTC crashes deeply.

This place is fun to play in in and speculate over regardless of price.

As far as a social media outlet, I like Steem Block Chain. Everyday I can find things to read view and look at, I can share thoughts ideas, pictures and stories if I feel like it. HF 21/22 did do one thing though that has me concerned about the viability of Steem Block Chain becoming a different Social Media Outlet, and that is the growing and ever increasing number of 15 SP down vote troll accounts.

I know they do very little financial damage to people, but the fact is the down vote system is broken, and the troll have been being kicked off of steem at every corner except this one. @steem I am sure is aware of the issue, after all I bring it up a lot. People have a tendency to pretend that the delegated stake is the accounts stake, that is wrong. The Stake belongs to @steem and it is @steem that is enabling the down vote accounts.

Steem Block Chain wanted to be a "Different" social media, by allowing the continuation of these down vote only accounts all @steem is doing is making the steem block chain social media a part and parcel of the same old same old social media mindset.

I agree that this place attracts too many hustlers. But the open concept makes it hard to change. I am not sure how it could be done, but until something better shows up I participate in the vigilante effort like steemflagrewards and the like.

steemflagrewards and other abuse fights are fine, they fight what they can fight. They can not fight 221 accounts with 15SP that do nothing than down vote. Here is an excerpt from a comment I made early:

If you look at their account on steemworld and you choose the the filter of Transfers and take a really really good look at 2019-11-01. You will see 221 transfers of 0.001. that is 0.221 SP As you can see the camille account grows through no effort other than an army of down vote bots that are enabled by @steem,

Their account is the camillesteemer account. most of those 0.001 transfer to it was received from well meaning witnesses that like to reward their voters with a wallet token thank you. If @steem was to remove their delegation from those accounts at most they would only be able to annoy 2 or 3 accounts individually a day.

Yes, of course they could remove the delegation, that's true. Camillesteemer has been a pain for years and the strangest thing is that he/she continuous this petty crusade. What a sad person.

This makes sad but also gives me hope. My steem journey has been interesting. The time I could've gotten somewhere by engaging the community I was busy following Jerry Banfield and his likes waiting on a get rich quickly steem rain get to me. It never did.

Then I started getting into people's comment sections and somehow earned a few. I treasure who come... because I have now gathered 800 plus steempower which to me is a milestone. I am camping here whichever way :)

Yes, it can be hard in the beginning and the real key to getting a foothold is commenting and socialising. Great to see you powering up. We really need a middle class of good bloggers.

It is a good feeling to embrace the community more. One doesn't even realise how strangers turn into people you follow then over time they become friends and family. I have people I have met here that I won't trade with anything else. And I really hope that we get the middle class of really awesome content creators because that will definitely change the game!

Fingers crossed :)

It will take a lot of stubbornness from the community, but I have had a great time here. Much better than I would have on facebook or Twitter.

Fingers crossed :)

Isn't it steemit that's the blogging site and steem the utillity token?

Steem is much more than steemit. If steemit died tomorrow is that the end of steem and all its on chain projects? I don't know.
But if steem is just steemit then i need to find a new token to invest in

Steem is a transaction free coin, and Steemit, busy, Steempeak etc are the faucets that distribute the running inflation. They are not the same, but part of what gives Steem value is that it is connected to something that has value in the real world: Social media. Bitcoin only has speculation and has become a new kind of gold. Steem has a firmer grip in the real world with Steemit.

A bunch of people left because of the price dropping, now I am bringing them back. Yes, for someone to just be starting off an upvote is largely symbolic.

So be it.

People came on here with content that they have never had monetized before and acted like people owed them anything after they got used to it. There is a lot of value here on the platform and ive been enjoying working on growing my community again.

Good thing if you can bring people back. A lot has disillusioned left for good. It still is the best place for rewarded blogging. None of the others really work.
