Well folks, it finally happened. Steem was attacked, and the attackers won. If you didn't already know, the Tron Foundation, led by Justin Sun, committed a hostile take-over of the Steem blockchain, with the help of 3 exchanges: Binance, Huobi, and Poloniex. You can read my play-by-play of how it started here.
As a result, thanks to the wonders of open-source, the Steem community simply walked away, via a Hard Fork. I can't actually type out the name of our new chain here, because Steemit Inc. has begun censoring any content referring to their crimes, even adding this to their TOS:
14.1.7. [You agree that you will not...] Use our services to promote third-party platforms or to promote each other without our written permission.
Censorship
Steemit.com has taken to censoring all posts that speak ill of Supreme Leader Justin, talk about his fraudulent & criminal activities, or even that are simply promoting our community's move to a new, more decentralized platform. As one example, look at @Truthforce's front page on Steemit vs Steempeak.
Losing the Ninja-Mine
If you weren't aware, the Steem blockchain has had a pretty big blemish ever since the beginning, thanks to the way Dan & Ned launched. This blemish is referred to as the "Ninja Mine," and it not only showed a disturbing lack honesty at StInc., it also left the blockchain under the effective control of one entity for the next 4 years. Even though Steem's inflation is distributed across the ecosystem, leading to further and further decentralization, even after 4 years, the StInc ninja mine allowed one entity to overthrow our entire governance system.
Now, our new blockchain, while still certainly far from perfect (stake-weighted voting just means the rich win), it is a big step in the right direction. Check out this comparison of the market-share, pre- and post-fork, created by @arcange:
I'm No Longer Steeming
If you look back through my blog now, you will see that I've removed all my content from Steem. Now, technically it's all still there in those original transactions, but I've edited the posts (with the help of SteemPruner), and so every front-end simply shows a link to my new blog.
I do not consent to my content being used by the CCP, or any of their puppets like Justin & Tron. Hope to see you on the other side!
Rinse & Repeat
This article will be re-posting from my account daily for the foreseeable future, in hopes of helping people find their way out of the black hole that Steem has become.
