If you're looking to improve your life, the first thing I would tell you to start doing is invest in your knowledge. However you may go about it, an investment in your knowledge will always pay off.
Investing in your knowledge can allow you to do extraordinary things:
- You can make better decisions by having more information
- You can see what others don't by having more information
- You can monetize your knowledge - start a blog, a youtube channel, or even better: start posting on a Steem platform like Steemit or D.tube!
- Opportunities will seem plentiful because you have the knowledge to identify what may work and what may not work and why
5 Ways I invest in my Knowledge
- I read books daily - I typically read 2 books at the same time to keep things interesting, but I always make sure to finish at least 1 book a week
- I read articles and interesting posts - A lot of your fellow Steemians have a lot of great information to share - they've invested in their knowledge, and now they're sharing it with you, take advantage of it!
- I listen to podcasts - podcasts are a great way to learn on the go and also to get out of your normal spheres of thinking - I love finding interviews of people in crazy fields. The JRE show (Joe Rogan Podcast) is my go-to.
- I listen to audiobooks - I don't consider audiobooks as a replacement to reading, but rather a supplement to reading. Hearing information is a different way of processing it in the mind and can provide insights that reading might not.
- I'm a practitioner - I don't just read about things, I like to go out and attempt them for myself. I work on my businesses, I experiment with different tactics and strategies, and I overall just like to experience as many things as I can first-hand. Experience is one of the best teachers.
Here's the Question of The Day, don't forget to post your answers in the comments!
QOTD: What's 1 way that you invest in your knowledge on a regular basis?
Thanks for reading! Don't forget to leave your thoughts below and I look forward to seeing you in the comments!
Your number 5 is huge, you could make a post about that alone. Applied knowledge is the only knowledge, doesn't matter how you apply it, but you gotta apply it or you'll probably lose it anyways...
Lately I haven't been accumulating much knowledge other than spiritual teachings which are just repetitive. I've been reading crushing it and trying to learn how to build a strong presence online. It's pretty challenging with work and home life and writing on steemit, but I'll get there!
My favorites in the past are like yours, reading books/blogs, listening to podcasts(JRE is money, too many fighters for my taste but still great), and trying new experiences. For a while I was trying rock climbing, gymnastics, learning language(duolingo) and an instrument(guitar). I'd really like to pick those habits up again. Maybe now is a good time to write down my goals again!

That's a great suggestion, I should make a post about that! That's absolutely true, if you can't apply the knowledge in some capacity, then your brain will deem it useless and make room for knowledge it considers to be worthy of it's space!
How are you liking Crushing It! so far by the way? Has it helped you on steemit? And yes, balancing life is hard and I'm terrible at it - I have a very poor social life and spend 99% of my time on my businesses. It's something I'm trying to work on as well!
It's amazing how similar we are! I totally agree with you on the fighters, my favorites are with the ultra-entrenched individuals who are world-class in their fields - people like Randall Carlson or Neil deGrasse Tyson. It's always a good time to write down some goals and pursue them, do it!!!

Ya man, my social life has taken a major hit recently, but I'm not worried, a ton of my friends moved and I'm focused on other things like family and career change. Loving crushing it, reading through the sections on social media, gonna pply them to zappl and such and copy paste over to the current. Another time issue though! haha
I'm a fan of Randall and graham hancock and love some of the others. Really liking Aubrey Marcus' podcast.
Ya man, first post I read of yours I was like, this guy gets it haha, I've got plenty of goals for 2018, plan on accomplishing them all!!

Thank you @khaleelkazi... today my best teacher is life experience. I learn from my boys and from teaching. I used to read a lot and thanks to you I can continue to read new books. Actually it seemed like every book was the same so I enjoyed classics the most. The problem with classics is they take a couple hours just to get started. I like the Bible the most and write a journal each day. That's the best part of my day.
After three months on Steemit I learned some good things from your posts. I'm upset though about a lot of the trending posts in see in Steemit. That's what turned me off from the beginning. It's like I want to avoid popular authors and these are the ones who show up when anyone searches Steemit. I'm a little concerned about the future of this network and the Steem crypto itself.
At the same time I have to pay more attention to other things like learning and teaching and family. I'm glad to talk about what I learned today. I like visiting your blog. I liked your attitude from the beginning and the Steem was a bonus.
It's only been a couple months but it seems like ages. Anyway. It looks like I'm here to stay.
Have you ever read the Brothers K? It's a book I go back to every couple years.
Another thing that gets me learning is a test. I have never studied so much without having a test looming over me especially tests like GRE, MCAT and teaching exams. This standardized tests motivate me to learn for even a year straight. But that learning is not the same as experience.
These days nature is my second teacher. I learn by listening. I'm pretty fed up with tons of information coming at me and at times I turn off all gadgets and learn from real life. I'm not disappearing but taking some time off.

I love classics as well and it's a goal of mine to get back to reading more of them! Life experience is something that I've always found extremely rewarding - all you have to do is step outside of your door step and do something with the intent of curiosity and you'll always find amazing knowledge and skills!
I also see a huge issue with the trending page. There's a lot of crappy content getting shot right up to the top. I've seen a lot of plagiarism and simple content that just shouldn't be valued at thousands of dollars and taking up the precious attention of the trending page. I imagine that the Steemit team will come up with some better solution for sorting posts or other teams will (like busy.org, d.tube, etc.). It's just a matter of time in my opinion, but it's something that should be addressed ASAP.
Talking about what I learn each day is always amazing and I love hearing all of yours and others thoughts on different subjects as well! It's as if we have a great meeting hall of amazing minds sharing amazing ideas and I love it!
I haven't read Brothers K, but I will definitely check it out, thanks for the recommendation!
Ahh yes, tests always got me to learn quickly and thoroughly. Now that I'm no longer in school, I set similar deadlines for books and other subjects just to get myself to sit down and make sure that I keep up with everything. Nature is also a great teacher, have you read the biography of Leondardo Da Vinci by Walter Isaacson? It's a really great read and talks a lot about how Da Vinci learned from nature and how it influenced his art and life.

Wow. Thank for taking time to read my comment even though I was in a bad mood. Leondardo Da Vinci by Walter Isaacson sounds write up my alley. I'm looking it up now. I see Leonardo and you have some things in common (a man without letters" a "disciple of experience")

This is so true! I'm 18 and recently made 6 figures from crypto and someone in his 30s (making 8 figures) told me about someone he knew who was 17 and also made close to 30 million from cryptos.
He said his life became meaningless and boring once he had the money because he didn't have the skills to keep up with it! That's why my friend learns a new sport + a new instrument + a new skill each year!
Taking this knowledge on board, I have recently started a blockchain course on top of my university commitments and I've joined many clubs and including gaming, sports and hobbies! This is how I try to invest in myself!

That's great to hear @cryptoeater! I'm 20 myself and have made more money than I could've imagined possible from crypto. When I first got started in crypto, I imagined making a few thousand dollars, but it has blown WAY passed those expectations! I'm glad to hear that you're seeing phenomenal success as well and this is still early on! We'll see even great returns from our efforts here on Steem and in other cryptos as well!
One of my favorite rappers - NF - has a line in one of his songs that goes something like this: It's funny that you have the money but that money doesn't buy you skills tho. (don't quote me on that lol, it's not exact!!).

That was the title of a post I made on Sunday. Why did I decide to write on it ? Because this is the age which things change at such a rate if one relax on his learning activities, will likely be left out. I invest so much on my intellectual bank than in anything else because the skills which we rely on today will likely be obsolete in a few years to come.
To the QOTD: MOOCs and self study courses on Cousera is one way I invest in my knowledge on a regular basis. Also reading post and comments on the internet (eg Steemit here ) has offered me the insight into other's view and opinions.

I like the way you put that - investing in your intellectual bank. I also agree that in this "information age" there is so much consumption of knowledge that missing a minute of learning is like falling a year behind your peers!
I love online courses as well and interacting on Steemit really opens your eyes to different perspectives. It's like a collective great hall meeting that's filled with amazing minds who are talking about amazing subjects! I hope more and more people come to Steemit in hopes of sharing their knowledge and experiences in life!

Yea these are the words of a go getter. I love that.
It is true that investing in knowledge yields the best interest, my first time of seeing this quote though but I totally agree. People who read, never go out of ideas . The beautiful thing about reading is that most times you dont get to use what you learnt from such books immediately but eventually they come in handy.
I am one person who have always hated reading. I studied engineering so I am more of a calculation than a reading person . But since I came on steemit ,that has changed. I feel I can find almost every information I need in steemit as I enjoy reading lots of articles here on steemit now.

Thanks @sistem! I agree, if you read and have a sense of curiosity, you will never run out of ideas. I hated reading when I was younger and in school but as soon as I started picking my own books and reading about topics that interested me, I found that I loved it and couldn't help myself but to read all the time! I also love reading around on Steemit, there's TONS of great stuff on here! Keep up the good work @sistem!

Really liked this one! Resteemed. Looking at your 2) I like to think when I tell people my goals they can't imagine it because they personally don't think they can do it themselves.

Thanks @jason7282! Ahhh, I love your take on #2... I feel the exact same way when I tell people my goals! They all think I'm crazy, but that's how I know I'm on the right path - doing what others think is impossible!
