Is it possible that you are unhappy because you are growing your brain?

As the brain matures, experience prunes excess neural connections while strengthening those that are more commonly used. Many scientists believe that this process contributes to a steady reduction in gray matter volume during adolescence. Because environmental forces help determine which connections will wither and which connections will thrive, brain circuits that emerge become more efficient, however, this is a process that can be cut in both directions. Because not all behavioral patterns are desirable or healthy. An environment with negative factors can lead to effective but potentially harmful circuits that harm a person's well-being. So when you feel unhappy, you may just be growing parts of your brain that you didn't have before.
