Dealing with skepticism
If you have not heard of anyone saying: "bah that must be a scam or piramid scheme", you just didn't talk enough about Steem within your friends circle and/or family.
Put it simply: When something sounds too good, natural reaction is skepticism.
Unbelievable projects are at first hard to believe in
What if people are simply not quite ready for Steem? May it sounds too good from the outside?
How many of you needed a close friend pushing you in order to give it a first try?
Being human and understanding the nature of our brothers is complicated. We are all early adopters of a new socio-economic paradigm. Be aware You know things others cannot even imagine.
OMG did I just say it? I can argue with anyone for hours with almost unlimited argumentations lines why Steem is such a freaking revolutionary project.
Think of ...any revolutionary invention in humankind?
For f**cks sake, we are talking here about some serious accomplishments.
- People getting rewarded for their creative work, online, from any part of the world and through a decentralized cryptocurrency.
- We are also talking about a super fast transaction system without fee.
- We talk about a community where principles of transparency, zero-barrier-entry level and absence of intermediaries are primary.
Are not these reasons convincing enough?
Let's be patient, there is still general misinformation and trust issues even with Bitcoin!
This is just my personal common sense output, which could be perfectly wrong.Regardless, who says we need global adoption right away? I think we are doing pretty well already!
The father of the cryptocurrency revolution is still under a lot of misinformation pressure and huge global interest are still adjusting to the change of stakes. We are probably not seeing any major changes in crypto international legislation and mass adoption policies till then.
It has been a tough year
Steem market price has brought some controversy this year. Many Steem users have express their frustration regarding the lack of market response in regards of price evolution. New altcoins market cap have surpassed Steem and created the portrait of Steem being an unevaluated asset.
ok, let me go the other way, is the continued alternative for creatives worth applying energy on? the one where we hope we get rewarded and noticed. at least this 20 month battle hardened blockchain is live, not some ICO that's not been built yet. i say this, ENJOY THE NOW ;)

People are scared of everything new, especially the older generation. Look at politics and how difficult it is to see ration change. It's all good though. True believers in Steemit will keep blogging no matter what :D

Very “smart and intelligent” people seem to be more cautious than others I remember reading somewhere.
Doesn’t mean you should not try. :)

I am the so called “older” generation and most of my “friends” are too slow but I would say mostly People who lived their lives without taking risks will hesitate. I jumped right in! My logical mind told me nothing to loose except my time as long as I try.

No intermediaries! Ad agencies can eventually work within the platform rising steem price! But most importantly, no one gets a cut out of author content!
EDIT: Technically I wasnt fully accurate. The curators gets a "cut". What I meant is not cut for intermediary ad agents.

Where is the point at all of beeing scared? It is free!! You can't loose anything. Just try. That's what I would tell sceptical friends.

Exactly, thats what I meant by zero-barrier-entry-level. Actually each single Steemit account is worth 27 Steem (the delegated steempower you get at the beginning) so technically speaking, you get money for free.

Well I guess learning stuff sometimes requires sleeping on it. We need to give our subconcious some time in order to fully "digest" recent input.
Glad you liked it!

I can say, being fairly new to Steemit, that it seems like it's ripe for a lot of growth and acceptance.

We need to sustain the utilisation of the Steemit platform. Apart from recruiting new members, we need to retain them. Some tactics with the use of bots, turn people away from the platform since the egalitarian mission of Steemit is waylaid with money and power. Quality content has to increase, content creators have to feel that they are adequately compensated, people who exploit the features of the platform to exploit the reward pool should be curbed, etc.

You just mentioned pretty much what I understand are current challenges of Steem as a social-platform.

We must remember that we are now living in the virtual world. There is a lot of things happening in this virtual world that we do not believe. Many people work on steem to earn money. How long can this work somebody has no ideas. This virtual world must work with ricks.
I think Steemit will not be easily closed. Because it's very hard to work on Steemit. If you think you can work hard, successes. Those who do not work, they can not work on Steemit.

People try different things only when friends try it first, I think we're building a big community bit by bit, step by step
