Joining Up
I joined steemit one week ago. Sure when I first read about a platform that paid it's user base for posting, voting and commenting I was sceptical. But hey I was over Facebook, Google plus died the slow death a long time ago and I now only dabbled with Instagram and Twitter.
I was looking for something new and I found this. I was happy to post, my first three or four posts garnered a few likes but no cash then a silly post of mine on my travails in the garden attempting to grow new grass picked up a massive 28 cents.

I kid you not when I say massive, for me the very idea that any post of mine could earn some manner of money was staggering. A very good comment was made about the lack of pictures on my post which i have embraced. Indeed I have saw this advice dispensed many times and great advice it is too as first and foremost you want to attract the eye of a potential reader/voter.
So I carried on, posting my posts, hoping that they would be read and secretly hoping that I could garner a few more posts with cents in the double figures. My small mind thought that posts on the trending feed with their parade of exotic locations and stories of bitcoins and blockchains that were valued at thousands of dollars was a dream.
A good dream but an unattainable dream. I would be happy to gain a few dollars a month. The way I saw it I have a lot of bills and if I could take a small payout every few months to help me maybe buy some takeout that would be awesome enough.
Then I posted a recipe for a scorching hot salsa I like to make
I hardly looked at my phone for a while

Touched by a whale?
Then boom, I finished a long day at work and checked my phone. Holy crap, 300 odd dollars!!!
Now I still like to say I am not in this for the money.. but what an awesome thing this is. A beautiful thing. We get paid whether that be big giant whale blessed posts or little micro payments for cents.. we still get paid. None of this Facebook Goliath nonsense reaming our hard work and making millions on the back of our content and our data. Selling us advertising and treating us like a commodity.
Well no more. I am hooked. This platform is social, innovative and rewards it's users.
I am on a mission now, I have been telling all the folk i know. Getting the word out there. Let's all make this the best platform and stick one to the accepted way of doing things. Let's get steem dollars to number one!!
Let's all get posting original and interesting comment and voting up posts that catch our eye!
Long live steem!!!
You sound like me :) I am a bit tired and discouraged , even confused and sidetracked after one week , reading so much I actually don't really understand Sometimes it's good to take a little brake from the social media then focus on your own message and continue . Gaining 1 cent is 1 cent more than I ever made on Facebook so my time her is at least worth a few cents . That's a good feeling ! Good luck !

Exactly, even if it's a cent it's more than any of us have ever made on Facebook. I voted for some on your blog :0)

Thats what pulls in the new user, but most stay back for the long haul. Your experiences remind of the day, a hundred years ago, when I joined steemit. up-voted!
