Remembering the Kool aid

in steem •  6 years ago

A lifetime ago, I used to work in the restaurant industry in what you would call the quintecential corporate America. If there is one thing I remember from those days, and one thing I don't miss is the Kool aid you had to partake of, if you wanted to grow.

Why am I thinking of this today you may ask? Well, because I'm beginning to conclude that some of the behaviors displayed in such environment are not unique to that environment per say, but more default social behaviors that allow us to "belong" more effectively if you will.

To be clear, there is nothing wrong with enjoying your work, being a team player and what have you, but there is a problem when we stop becoming objective, see no flaws at all, hesitate to speak our mind when our voice is one of dissent.

Maybe some of the administrative problems Steemit inc has stumbled into, are nothing more that a different version of the same dynamic. The creation of a hermetic echo chamber where only the "good people" who support their every move are allowed to be part of, has probably resulted in the divide we see today.

That being said, there is hope still, and Ned has very recently started to exit his "yes people" echo chamber, engaging with critical voices, which to me is a step, a small one however, in the right direction.

All in all, in my personal opinion, we don't need fanatics with blinders praising Ned and his team, we could use more objective voices thanking them when they do right, and questioning what seems to be wrong, it's really that simple and yet that is why it's so hard to do.

The other problem happens when leadership fields a disagreement, leadership goes a different way, and the other party just cusses them out for not listening and is just there to say "I told you so". It's one thing for leadership to not listen, and it's quite another for them to listen but argue for a different path after laying out all the considerations. Of course transparency is key here.

Hopefully Ned, really take into account the opinions that are made, sometimes it seems that he does not read the comments.
The image of KOOL made me remember my childhood hahaha

Even Ned like every human being need to evolve, adapt with his problems along the way.

I guess to me @ned is now improving than before and this is a small step taken from him in form of communication with the communities.

Agreed as we often become biased when passionate about something and wanting the best as well. I think the direction is better and now the focus must shift to the challenging part of execution.
