Steem Price. Is it Correct or I just don't understand How my Steemit account works? Please Comment

Okay, so I followed the process to purchase " Steem " when it was at $1.72 per coin.
Now on today Jan 2, 2018 it's over $6.00 per coin.

At the time I'm writing this it's $6.78 per coin.

If this is correct, why doesn't my account balance reflect today's price??

Please any help will be greatly appreciated.
