False expectations...

I've had a really interesting discussion earlier this afternoon with a friend of mine, also a Steemian, who joined the Steem family long before I did but he prefers to watch from the sidelines for the time being.

He is also one of those who are demotivated and doesn't feel like blogging or keep doing what he used to do until a few months ago is of great importance right now. And while he is a big Steem fan I could "see" behind his words that he is also disappointed not because of what is happening on the platform, but because Steem is really undervalued and underappreciated by those who invest in crypto.

One doesn't have to possess special technical knowledge to understand that 0.12$ worth per Steem is nothing compared to what this blockchain can offer to the world and that the opportunities for people to build practically everything on top of it are endless. Yet, here we are...Swinging between 0.12$ - 0.16$ for months now...

Welcome to the club buddy...

I am not really sure what the outcome of that conversation really was but there are some facts that he mentioned while talking where all of us simply forget. one of them, probably the most important is human behavior and mentality. Let me give you one example. When BTC launched, some 11 years ago only a few people knew about this project. And 99% of them were insiders.

As the time went by and more and more people started to mine BTC since it was way too profitable to miss the opportunity to do so, used to do it with no expectations, besides the crypto world until a few years ago was a one coin show and BTC had no other currency to compete against with. o the mentality of those who either mined or bought early was something between the lines of "Let's hold those coins and see where it goes in a few years time"

And then new projects started popping up, one after the other...

Fast forward to the bull run that took place at the end of 2017 and lasted till the mid January of 2018, this mentality changed. And it changed just because BTC kept going up and up breaking one ATH after the other. And while some early BTC holders indeed turned themselves into millionaires or even multimillionaires overnight, the average person who was blinded by BTC's success and decided to invest in BTC or some other currency, did it just because they thought that this bull run will last forever and this is the new way to become rich nowadays, well maybe not overnight but after a while...

Really???

Well, look at us now...If you really think that turning yourselves rich just like that is up to you, then you probably don't take under consideration that neither you nor me determine in which direction the prices will move. There are a ton of other factors that effect the overall sentiment. Just read @blocktrades latest post that happened to land on my feed right on time and see for yourselves why you need to be patient and take into account a bunch of other things before you make a decision.

So I guess the outcome of our conversation was that as long as there are people who join either Steem or any other project out there in the hope of becoming super rich just because it happened once, then we have a really long way to go...

And if we want mass adoption, then we have to make sure that at least those who join the Steem family don't just join to meet expectations like that...or else we are destined to fail...

Have a great one people.

Cheers.

Thanks for the post, Mindtrap. I've had a Steemit account for more than a year, but only really started using it today. I love the clean look of the platform, and that there's a place for me to post and maybe even make a few cents in the process. I'll be honest and say I barely understand what's going on with the crypto part of this — even as it seems to be the focus of so many users. Nor do I really care. I'm here to post and consume content, not to get "get rich quick." So please let me know if I'm suddenly a millionaire and I don't even realize it. ;)

Well, then welcome back. Just enjoy the ride and do your thing my friend.

Oh, and if you turn into a millionaire all of a sudden, you will know. Trust me...

When the market will change direction, the euphoria will be everywhere.

I am sure it will, but until then people need to have patience. The bear market, or should I say the "normal market" lasts for 2 years now and God knows till when...

patience - and action.

I can do that. The rest of us?

Well that makes two. :)
