My general impressions of steem recently are that its fucking boring. Just too much shilling of steem going on, and, as you point out, getting massive rewards.

Best off taking a break until it all settles down maybe?

I play in the Sportstalk App to be honest Karl, but even that has lost some of the engagement we had a few weeks back. The other problem is, most of the people I like to read, and engage within comments like this are here lol...trying to find a happy medium but you're right about finding interesting stuff, however, if you haven't read him already, you will see Mr @spectrumecons below this comment and he is definitely one of the best writers on here and in the same way you make Sociology exciting and simple to understand, he does the same with economics!

I have also been going through my 'following' list too and weeding that out. Quality rather than quantity!

Difficult taking a break when you've invested so much time but there must be some major attitude changes if Steem is to flourish.

While I wouldn't say its 'closed shop' it does favour the bigger guys now and you quite rightly point out all these ones that are showing up on :

Something had to change, and maybe more things are going to.., I cant say I'm a great fan of the 'new curve', but I'll give things a chance to settle.

I would rather use the chain for creative content, and not for these announcements, but people need to know what's happening, and some promotion needs to be used in order for them to be on 'new' Trending.

Absolutely, but pay to get it there if its a promotional post and take the loss. That's how advertising works! There is an intrinsic need to 'earn' here and if people can't think of anything to write, they do a Steem post, just to maintain their visibility. I was properly triggered yesterday when I saw a quite prominent Steemian posting a virtuous piece about how important it was to use the free flag and flag abuse which kind of got me onto this post!

The curve is terrible news for 95% of the rank and file. If the whales and witnesses are complaining about their investment dropping in value, the answer is that "the value of investments can go down as well as up", no one complains when they were making money and 'hodling' hand over foot. Because they were being greedy and waiting for prices to get even higher, then didn't take their profits and then saw the price fall whilst holding and holding, waiting for it to go up again. Now a lot of people are pulling Steem and flooding the markets at ridiculously low prices!

What's happening on Steem though is that because they are not making money, they simply skew the game in their favour!!

You're a large investor and produce decent content. YOU are the people we need here who want to use the platform and pay to play as well as hoping for a return. In your shoes, I'd be furious at being an investor and having such little say in the running of things. You need to get a witness node up and running!!

As for SF4, I don't think I will be attending but will definitely turning up downtown to say hello and have a beer. If there are a few people I want to say hello to, I might organise a little 'fringe' shindig in a less touristy area. I know @revisesociology is coming for an extended trip so we could get something sorted for just before or just after.

Yes, too many STEEM posts though I do them sometimes too, but only if I got something to say.

I devote too much time to all this and am horribly in the red. It feels like a trap at times.. but thanks for the inspiration. There are some decent writers left here yet.

I think the bigger accounts are struggling to find content to upvote. Many of them have been out of the game for a while. At the moment Steem related news is the easiest target to push. It will take time to adjust.

You are one of the very highest quality content creators here and I understand that subject matter is also very important to gain rewards, you need an audience however good the writing is, but does it not wind you up seeing the amount of knowledge, skill and effort you put into a post and then get next to nothing compared to some of the circle jerked crap there is out there?

If the answer to that is 'no', then rest assured I feel bad on your behalf. It annoys the hell out of me!

I think I will give New Steem at least a month before I do any analysis. People need to get used to how the platform now functions.

I put a lot of work and effort into most of my posts. Many do not get particularly high rewards. Seeing other content creators putting in minimum effort and consistently getting a huge return is frustrating. I am hoping the changes made in HF21/22 will get us on the path to resolving these problems.

Unfortunately, Steem meta posts are going to be unavoidable. All of us are passionate about Steem (we either love it or hate it), and when something is developed and built for it, people want people to know about it. The only mechanism for this is to get on trending or at minimum hot.

This is also the result of a small user base where the majority of the content is low quality.

You also have to consider that a hard fork just happened, this is a major event that happens only once every 1-2 years at this rate. There is going to be an increased amount of activity about it.

That being said, I don't agree with a lot of the meta posts with very little content that was heavily voted up.

Far too sensible a reply for one of my posts. I'm personally too thick to have an answer. All I ever do is act as devil's advocate and carefully read replies to gauge reaction and try and find answers.

My point was simply that a post about Steem from an long term member organically generates 200steem in reward. A good post about a non Steem related post from 99% of members makes jack .

Is this going to bring in new people?

Thank you for featuring one of my Steem News posts @nathen007.

I am curious to know whether you would prefer that....

a) I didn't produce the daily news post

b) I did continue to produce the daily news post but got no rewards for it

c) you did it yourself.

For reference it takes approximately 4 hours a day to research and produce the Daily News.

I believe it provides a useful service for people on steem to keep up to date with what is going on on the platform.

@pennsif this is no way a personal attack, I simply wanted to show the disparity between themed content rewards and used these posts as examples of why quality content creators and bloggers will not use, or stay on this platform.

Your post was a catalyst for my ire rather than being the chief protagonist.

Upon joining Steem, your dollar a day campaign was the perfect example of how Blockchain technology and crypto could and should be being used and I have at various times used your research to do my own small bit for charities you have found. Last month I tried to run @sportaid on Sportstalk and get people to donate 1 post of tokens to @creativestreet . Sadly managed to only raise about 80 steem from 5 people who joined in.

Again, I have no conclusions as to how to make Steem a more sharing and altruistic platform when all I see are greedy individuals taking care of themselves and using their personal 'power' to reap benefits exclusively for themselves. Steem is a technological marvel and tool so often let down by the actions of the most powerful members. I truly believe that any community should be taking care of its weakest members and that is where the strength in community lies and for this reason, Steem and crypto will ultimately fail without a drastic shift in mindset.

I also look at value in Steem and not Fiat and so it's not $40 usd, it's 200 Steem to me and compared to some posts that have taken similar effort that might be lucky to earn 1steem , it brings home the reward disparity more vividly.

Again, it wasn't a personal attack and you have nothing to defend and I know that this isn't a great explanation but I wanted to highlight something I consider to be an important failing and your post was in my eyes, a great starting point.

Hey mate. I'm not. I just think these kind of posts ought to be non-rewards. They seem to have simply written off all the small fish in one foul swoop. Steemit sells itself as being a place to be rewarded for your content but thats not happening at all now. All that has been created is an autovote circle jerk.

At least with bid bots, new members could gamble on making a small profit using them and getting some exposure. When I started, I often used tiny amounts on Minnowboosters which was cool and kept me going. Its a confidence boost to see the votes, even if they are paid for!

Now, no one is going to use a bid bot for a huge loss and no newbies get organic upvotes, especially when these big shots will have their auto curators tied down to maximise return on their upvotes regardless of the content they are voting on and with no 'loose' change for random posts.

Let me add my disgruntled views, but first I'll say you might have saved me, or all of us from a rant video where I name names and swear my allegiance to antagonize..

I'll be succinct bc what's my motivation here? All I'm gonna say is partiko a dead front end is my ONLY decent option to steem on my mobile. I was cornered into using esteem as partiko was bugging out and totally useless to do anything but comment after seeking out my non moronic steemians. That's you my friend. So, esteem crashed and I can't even vote or comment there and steempeak while cool doesn't make flags easily accessible and also hides my comments on dickheads like therealwoofs shit posts of excessive bid bottin that he owns and his cronies of course support. So on principle I am boycotting almost or actually every front end 😂

Let me also add I found out that esteem rakes 10% so fuck that.. OK I'm over it

Funny you should mention esteem app, I just downloaded it to give it a spin last night. I didn't know they took an automatic 10% cut! It looks poor anyway, not a pleasurable experience using it.
As for Partiko, I'm not sure they have completely buggered off, I noticed there was an update as late as mid-June AND, mine didn't work at all for a few days. Then it was displaying incorrect payouts and although it still doesn't show the 50/50 split, it's working quite solidly again for me and I sense it is getting tweaked and kept running in the background.

Whats really annoying is it has been the best thing for Steem on mobile by miles and there is still nothing in the pipeline that looks like it will be coming close anytime soon.

Of course, the cynic in me says that 'they' don't want mobile users cos that means more third-world, brown, skint people actually using Steem as a currency with true utilisation as opposed to these knob heads who just hodl 1s and 0s and imagine how rich they are going to be one day....
Humans turn Steem into food, whereas fools sit looking at digit after digit dropping off their binary!

Oh shit ! Dropped the 💣 bomb, at some point reality creeps in. I can’t think of a single reason a supposedly cutting edge technology doesn’t have a mobile interface worth a shit after 3 years.. And yes I agree partiko even with its abysmal failings is still by far the best option for me..
